Operation Vigilance

In early December, the Yolo County District Attorney's Office, along with many other law enforcement agencies, conducted surprise compliance checks on over 340 registered sex offenders. "Operation Vigilance" has been in existence since 2008.  The operation focuses on protecting citizens by confirming that registered sex offenders who reside in Yolo County are complying with probation directives and registration requirements, as well as obeying all laws

One unique aspect of “Operation Vigilance,” is that during home visits with registered sex offenders, forensic examiners come in and search the offenders' computers, smart phones and other digital storage devices for potential violations.  A total of 64 devices were searched and one was seized for further examination

Approximately 90 law enforcement officials from 11 local, state, and federal agencies participated in this joint operation. Overall, 98% of the sex offenders investigated were in compliance. One person was arrested for weapon and drug violations.  In addition, six others are the subject of further investigation. This year's operation was a huge success thanks to our High Tech Unit, the Investigations Bureau and our IT Administrator, Mike Works.

This operation continues to serve as an additional deterrent to registered sex offenders who may be prone to re-offend.
