St. Matthew Lutheran Church
Weekly Update
Wow, look how full the sanctuary is during chapel this year, even without the preschool! Thank God for the chance to share the gospel with so many kids!
HELP METZGERS MOVE TOMORROW!!!
The Metzger family will be moving into a rental home TOMORROW, 8/26 at 9am!! Meet at the Klawitter storage facility where we will load up his trailer and make trips back and forth to the Metzger's rental house at: 807 E Roundtable Circle.

SUNDAY: Do you ever feel too stressed to go to church? Do you ever feel too afflicted to bother with God? Psalm 27 inverts that attitude and shows us why we can't live without God and his Word, ESPECIALLY when we are afflicted.

We will also have brief usher training after church. It's not going to be long, but we just want to remind everyone of a few usher duties, some of which sometimes get forgotten.

Here's a YouTube of our previous service. The message is timeless, on one of the most important prophecies in the Bible, Psalm 22. It's worth your time if you missed it, and I rarely say that.
I told you the secret waterfall was cool! Just wait until you see the secret rock slide by Priest Lake next summer!

STEVE ANSON UPDATE
Steve passed away last Sunday shortly after church. His last moments were spent listening to a family member read him the hymn verses and Bible passages from a previous week's bulletin. He has entered his eternal rest, but we pray for the survivors as they mourn for him, and ask that God would grant them hope in Christ. The family anticipates it will take several weeks to figure out a date for his funeral.

TIMBER TOSS - CORNHOLE TOURNAMENT AT CHURCH
On Saturday, September 10 at 11am we will be hosting a corn hole tournament. Registration for the event is $50 per team. Included in the cost is a lunch and a special Timber Toss koozy. Only the first 25 teams will receive a koozy so make sure you sign up early!
The last day to register is September 2. If you have any questions you can reach out to Rachel Taasaas or Erika Rosenbaum. Please let Rachel or Erika know if you have a corn hole set that we could borrow for the event.
If you do not want to participate in the tournament you can still come and watch! We will have lunches available for purchase.
All of the money raised will be used to help with purchasing a new playground.

YANG UPDATE
From Lindsay: "Hi Pastor West, Yufan and the kids and I have moved into our new house in Katy, Texas, a suburb of Houston. There’s a WELS church ten minutes from our home and we’ve been going there. We miss everyone at St. Matthew’s very much, but I will say we are finding our new church to be a wonderful group of people and we are very thankful to be here... At our first service they happened to be having a send-off potluck for their 9th vicar and there happened to be water slide bouncy castles. My kids loved that. ...:)"
PRAYER CONCERNS:
  • Continue to pray for our home-bound members: Maria Baerman, Carol Taylor, Carole Boyette, Christine Glardon, Jean Johnson, Beverly Van Epps, Louise Scherschel, Steve Anson.
  • The family of Steve Anson who passed away this week
  • Keep praying for the Metzger family to get settled into a home.
  • Lance Barton's recovery from surgery.
  • A few private prayer requests - people have all sorts of problems. Pray for the people in your life.
  • The Johnson family who has Chuck's burial tomorrow
  • Thanks that the school modular is ready in time for the school year.
The men's backpacking was a blast. Being men, we didn't think to take photos of ourselves, but I did get one photo of our remote campsite.
BIBLE VERSE of the week

But he was pierced for our transgressions,
he was crushed for our iniquities;
the punishment that brought us peace was on him,
and by his wounds we are healed.

- Isaiah 53:5
