The Association of Cultural Enterprises Retail Resilience Programme - Apply Now!

Nomination deadline: 26 August 2016

The Association of Cultural Enterprises (ACE) launches its Retail Resilience Programme for North East museums in October 2016.
If you are running a retail shop and want to improve the performance of your business, giving even better returns to your museum, or improve the visitors experience through a truly inspirational shopping visit then this training course could be perfect for you.

MA Code of Ethics Sessions

Tamsin Russell, Professional Development Officer at The Museums Association will be visiting the North East to update staff and volunteers at Tyne & Wear Archives & Museums on the revised Code of Ethics, which launched to the sector in January 2016. The are two sessions open to all regional museum staff and volunteers.  Attendees will have the opportunity to look at ethical dilemmas, use the Code to work out best next steps, reflect and use it as a decision making tool in particular situations. 

Sessions dates:

21 Sept,1-2pm - Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle upon Tyne

22 Sept, 11am - 12pm - Discovery Museum, Newcastle upon Tyne

Museum Mentors Event

Venue: Palace Green, Durham 

Museum Mentors are invited to attend a half day event on 6 October for an update on the Museum Accreditation Scheme.  Guest speakers include Annette French, Manager, Museums Accreditation at Arts Council England and Sarah Brown, Outreach Officer at Collections Trust.

Accreditation Sessions

Emma Chaplin, Accreditation Adviser, will be holding the following Accreditation sessions at Durham Castle on Friday 7 October:

Accreditation Refresher, 10am - 1pm: 
This workshop is suitable for staff and volunteers either new to Accreditation or those who would like an update/refresher as you prepare for your Accreditation Return.

Accreditation surgery sessions: 
Pre bookable 30 minute slots - afternoon only.

Small Grants Scheme

Deadline: 4 November 2016

There's still time to apply for small grants funding. Grants of up to  £1000 are available without match funding and larger grants of between £1000 and £1500 are available with a minimum of 10% match funding (cash or in kind).

Ready to Borrow - Capital grant funding for museums

Deadline: Thursday 20 October 2016

The Ready to Borrow Scheme is now open for applications. The funding is available for upgrading buildings and display spaces so that museums are better able to meet the requirements of the Government Indemnity Scheme (GIS), enabling an increase in the number of loans coming to the region. Museums can apply for grants of between £10,000 and £40,000.

The funding is available to museums as part of a £2.4 million programme of investment, aiming to make a strategic contribution to Arts Council England’s mission and the goals which underpin it.  A total of £120,000 has been allocated to the North East region.

CAN Conference 2016
Conservation & Exhibitions

Date: 21 September 2016, 9.30am (for 10am start) - 4.00pm
Venue: Dorman Museum, Middlesbrough

This year's conference is packed full of tips, practical advice and inspiring presentations on the theme of Conservation & Exhibitions.  Speakers include staff from the National Trust, Beamish, The Bowes Museum, The Durham Light Infantry Museum and The Dorman Museum.

MDNE Annual Data Survey 2015/16 - Deadline Approaching!

Help us to achieve a 100% return rate for the Annual Data Survey by submitting a survey for your museum by 31 August 2016.  

All 63 Accredited museums are invited to provide data on their visitor numbers, educational engagement, financial operations and workforce for the last financial year (2015-16). The data will be critical to building an evidence base for advocating the social and economic value of the museum sector.  It will also provide a baseline of evidence to engage stakeholders including local authorities and funders.
