Annual Data Survey

The reports from the first Annual Museum Data Survey are now available to view on our website. In addition to an overall report, we also have sub-regional summaries so you can see the headline data for your area.

The Data Survey will be repeated yearly. We will be collecting data for the period 1 April 2016 - 31 March 2017 from April.

Transformers 2016-18

Deadline: Tuesday 7 March 2017

Between March 2017 and March 2018, the Museums Association will deliver a major expansion in the highly successful Transformers: Radical Change in Museums professional development programme. 

There are three programme strands: 

•    Strand 1 –Transformers: Innovate - applications now closed
•    Strand 2 – Transformers: Influence
•    Strand 3 – Transformers: Diversify

Together, they will support museum professionals to develop innovative ways of working, to influence more effectively and to create and manage change for themselves, their colleagues and their organisations.

Secret World of Schools: Working with Early Years Children

Venue: Shipley Art Gallery, NE8 4JB (9.30am - 4pm)

Find out more about the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage) curriculum and the importance of providing cultural opportunities for children at this stage of life at this free training session.

Hear from early years practitioners from around the region and take the opportunity to consider how your own organisation could make connections with the very young.

VON Meeting

The next meeting of the Volunteer Organisations’ Network (VON), will be on 28 March (10am - 2pm) at the Laing Art Gallery, Newcastle.

Louise McGlen from Newcastle Council for Voluntary Service (NCVS) will be attending to talk about Gift Aid.

The network is open to volunteer-run museums. If you wish to attend please email Sarah Carr - to register your place.


An Introduction to Rights Management and Copyright

Our new series of Collections Management Workshops, run in partnership with Collections Trust, starts on 11 May 2017 with 'An Introduction to Rights Management and Copyright'.

This session will provide an introduction to the sometimes daunting world of rights management, exploring intellectual property rights and identifying works protected by copyright.

Choosing and Implementing the Right Financial Model for your Museum

The second workshop in our Enterprising Museums series is being held on 14 March at Discovery Museum, Newcastle and will cover:
  • The different financial models by which a museum can be financed
  • The financial drivers and blockers of your museum and how to manage them
  • How to identify and assess new ideas to improve performance and create the right team to deliver them
