Dear Harvard Latino Students and Alumni:

The founding board of the Harvard Latino Alumni Alliance (HLAA) is proud to announce that after many years of cumulative work among its members, on February 6, 2015 the Harvard Alumni Association approved HLAA as Harvard University’s official Latino Alumni Shared Interest Group (SIG).

As founding board members we represent the diverse experiences of Harvard Latino alumni from Harvard College and many of its graduate schools. While the University required only 50 signatures of support from Harvard Latino alumni, HLAA gathered nearly 600 signatures in just two months. The creation of HLAA is a historic achievement that affirms our existence at Harvard University. Now, we must work together to form a strong national alumni network that is active and inclusive and that promotes the development and achievement of a stronger Latino community at Harvard and throughout the United States. With this announcement we are officially launching HLAA. To maximize its effectiveness we are asking for participation from all members of the Harvard Latino alumni community. We welcome everyone’s input and participation as we form national committees and facilitate the creation of local professional and social alumni chapters. In particular, we need representatives willing to coordinate a small local event for Harvard Latino alumni and students in coordination with Harvard Global Networking Night to be held Monday, June 22, 2015. If you are interested in helping to lead HLAA efforts at your local level (e.g., Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Antonio, Houston, New York, etc.), or forming or joining a national committee, please contact us

In addition to supporting Harvard Latino alumni, we are committed to the success of our Harvard Latino students by building a supportive university environment.  In less than a year our founding board has already hosted and funded several events alongside current students on campus. Please click to learn more about the events we sponsored for current students. In the future, we will also coordinate with student groups so that you can donate directly to the organizations and events you wish to support.

Lastly, it is our desire to hear your voice! We have developed a community survey for alumni and current students to help us better understand your needs and interests. Please click to access the survey by April 15. Your responses will be used to help develop the HLAA Strategic Plan. Please take time to share your insights and help us forward this survey widely!

If you have any questions, please contact our representatives Mr. Edward Rocha at (617) 233-6743 or Dr. Gus Frias at (562) 445-5088 or email us at Thank you.
