SaaS Roundup #205

Dear roundup reader,

From a global health scare, through the rollercoaster in the markets, to SaaStr Annual getting rescheduled... It's been a rough week.

It was even more emotionally complicated for us because we chose this week to share with the world something we've been working on for >1 year.

Probably not the most significant event in perspective, but we're still pretty excited about it — not just because of all the effort that went into creating it, but also because we believe it introduces a big change to everyone in SaaS.

To learn about The ChartMogul Subscription Data Platform and why we believe it's such a big deal, check out our new blog post below. Just start a trial to take it for a spin today.

And if you have any questions or comments for us, we're always just a reply away!

See you next week,
Ilia @ ChartMogul

Introducing the ChartMogul Subscription Data Platform
Nick Franklin

Today, we’re excited to share the next step in the evolution of ChartMogul by launching the world’s first subscription data platform.

"We realized that what we were designing was a subscription data platform. A solution for truly putting our customers in control of their subscription data, and the robust (and transparent) foundational data layer on which our Subscription Analytics and Revenue Recognition products would sit."

The Top 10 Deliverables of Product Managers

Sachin Rekhi

Much of the literature that deals with product management is too broad and theoretical to be helpful to practitioners, argues Sachin Rekhi. Instead, he suggests that there are 4 specific areas that product people should focus on.

"I [...] define a product manager as driving the vision, strategy, design, and execution of their product. Each of these four dimensions has specific responsibilities as well as skills needed to be great at it."

Why I Am Long Vertical SaaS: Deeper Products, Better Customer Experiences

Brendan Wales, e.ventures

In the last 15 years Shopify has come to own about 3% of all global ecommerce and has allowed small brands to compete against Amazon. Brendan Wales argues that this "David vs. Goliath story" will define the next 5 years of Vertical SaaS and will result in trillions of dollars flowing through it.

"These new full-stack vendors will provide small and medium-sized businesses that opportunity to compete with larger players, just as Shopify has enabled new brands and retailers to compete with Amazon."
