And wasn't it great to start off our short, but wonderful paint out season with a demo from Morgan Samuel Price?
Thank you Morgan for coming to Sarasota to do this demo for us. I know I learned a lot about sending planes back into space on a flat two dimensional canvas. Yup, the light gets bluer as it goes back and it changes about every 1/4 to 1/2 inch. Not a bad clue to making a great painting!
Now, we are ready for the bloom at Myakka!
THURSDAY, MAY 6th PAINT MYAKKA!
Every May, the Coreopsis, or Tickweed, blooms bright yellow through the fields at Myakka. Photographers come from all over the world and so do artists. The best place to see it is about a mile or so before the turnoff to the concession stand on your left. So just pull off the road when you see a line of cars or artists painting or just a big beautiful field of bright yellow flowers. What a pretty sight! There is plenty of shade near the road and lots of views to choose from. Here is where I painted today with Sharon!
DATE: Thursday, May 6th TIME: 9 AM to whenever [You can come earlier for that morning light!] PLACE: Myakka River State Park 13208 State Road 72 Sarasota, FL 34241
DIRECTIONS: From 1-75 take the exit for Clark Road/ Exit #205 and head toward Arcadia...East.... and away from the beaches! The entrance is about 9 miles from the highway exit. Watch for the brown signs directing you to the entrance. The cost is $4 for a single person in a car and they want either a credit card or exact change. The big concession place is closed but there is a little stand selling hot dogs and a few other things. The bathrooms are at the entrance and upstairs at the concession stands.
Please do remember to keep 6 feet away from other artists if you are not wearing a mask. It's easy to forget, I know....but really, we don't know who has already gotten their vaccination. So let's stay safe. Everyone I talked to on Thursday had already been vaccinated, but you never know so let's be careful with each other!
See you there! Oh, I DO love painting outside with the Light Chasers again!
