WE HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYED THEIR HOLIDAYS AND WE WOULD LIKE TO WISH EVERYONE A HAPPY AND HEALTHY NEW YEAR OF 2021!
THIS IS THE 20TH AND FINAL WEEK OF OUR LIGHTCHASERS SPIRIT OF PAINTING CONTEST. AFTER THE BEST PAINTING OF THIS WEEK IS CHOSEN, ALL THE WINNING PAINTINGS OF THE PAST 20 WEEKS OF THE CONTEST WILL BE JUDGED AND IN A SPECIAL EMAIL THE PRIZE WINNERS WILL BE ANNOUNCED.
WE WILL NOT BE CONDUCTING ANY MORE WEEKLY CONTESTS IN ORDER TO GIVE YOU TIME TO PAINT YOUR ENTRY FOR OUR LIGHT CHASERS 10TH ANNUAL MEMBERS SHOW.
PLEASE DO NOT SEND IN ANY MORE PAINTINGS UNTIL YOU RECEIVE INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE SHOW.
BELOW ARE VERY IMPORTANT NOTICES REGARDING OUR SHOWS THIS YEAR...PLEASE READ!
BECAUSE OF TWO VERY DIFFICULT SITUATIONS, WE WILL BE HAVING ONLINE SHOWS ONLY THIS YEAR.
THE FIRST REASON IS THE ONGOING COVID-19 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC., WHICH MAKES THE NORMALLY CROWDED SHOWS WE USUALLY HAVE, UNSAFE FOR ALL THOSE INVOLVED IN THEM.
THE SECOND REASON BEING SARASOTA COUNTY IS NOW REQUIRING ALL GROUPS THAT FORMERLY HAD PARNTERSHIPS WITH PHILLIPPI ESTATE PARK FOR USE OF THE MANSION, TO NOW PAY A $4,200.00 RENTAL FEE PER DAY TO USE THE MANSION. WE HAVE MET WITH PRISCILLA BROWN ADMINISTRATOR OF PHILLIPPI ESTATE PARK TO TRY AND FIND A WAY TO USE IN-KIND SERVICES TO PAY FOR PART OF THE FEE, BUT SARASOTA COUNTY WOULD NOT ALLOW THIS BECAUSE OUR ARTISTS ARE MAKING MONEY FROM SELLING THEIR PAINTINGS.
WE ARE EITHER GOING TO HAVE TO SOMEHOW RAISE THE MONEY FOR THE FEES FOR A ONE DAY SHOW AT THE EDSON KEITH MANSION FOR NEXT YEAR OR FIND A NEW LOCATION FOR OUR 2022 SHOWS AND EVENTS.
UNTIL THEN, WE HAVE TO BE CREATIVE AND REINVENT HOW WE PROCEED WITH OUR SHOWS AND EVENTS FOR THIS 2021 YEAR.
WE ARE VERY SORRY TO HAVE TO GIVE YOU THIS UNHAPPY NEWS, AS WE ALL ENJOYED HAVING OUR SHOWS AT THE EDSON KEITH MANSION, BUT THIS IS SOMETHING THAT IS BEYOND OUR CONTROL IN BOTH CASES. WE ASK THAT YOU PLEASE PATIENTLY BEAR WITH US AS WE TRY TO ORGANIZE AND CREATE THIS NEW FORMAT FOR OUR SHOWS.
WE WILL BE PROVIDING YOU WITH MORE INFORMATION ON OUR 2021 0NLINE MEMBERS SHOWS IN THE COMING WEEKS, BUT UNTIL THEN PLEASE KEEP ON PAINTING!
THE PAINTING CHOSEN AS BEST PAINTING OF THE 19TH WEEK OF THE LIGHT CHASERS SPIRIT OF PAINTING CONTEST IS:
"A STORM IS BREWING"
BY AMY WEBBER
OIL ON LINEN PANEL
8" X 10"
Congratulations to Amy for a very beautifully captured moment in time. She has captured the several minutes in which the last rays of sunlight are still glimmering across the shoreline, before the darkness of the storm overtakes the scene. This painting is all about the texture of the brushstokes conveying the power and atmosphere of the impending storm. From the roughness of the water and sand on the beach, you can sense a change in the weather is due very soon. The white highlights on the water and the sandy shore carry your eye around the curve of the beach, to the approaching storm in the distance. You can almost feel the wind whipping up the waves, blowing sand in the air and creating movement in the trees and grasses before the rain finally pours down! Amy's painting will be entered into the final challenge at the end of the contest.
