How are Sustainable Development Goals Travelling in your World?:
The AGENDA 2030 Design, Planning AND Policy Studio Project.

With the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (2015) and the New Urban Agenda (2016) the world has a roadmap towards a sustainable, equitable and better designed future. Goal 11 (make cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable) shines a bright light on cities, as does Goal 10 (reduce inequality) and Goal 13 (climate action) amongst others. The SDGS are the centerpiece of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

The AIM of this project is to help accelerate awareness of the SDGs and NUA though practical action, including action in communities where the SDGs and NUA may not be so well known, and to contribute to their mainstreaming.

Although systems thinking is emphasized as vital to learning about and understanding climate science, research on the effects of systems thinking is relatively limited. Understanding how systems thinking influences public understanding of climate change has implications for climate change education and communication...

International Noise Awareness Day

When: Wednesday April 24th 9:45am

The International Noise Awareness Day (INAD) was founded in 1996 in New York City (NYC) by the Center for Hearing and Communication (CHC) with the aim of raising awareness about noise effects on hearing, physical and mental health, and overall well-being of people worldwide. Noise constitutes the second most harmful environmental stressor and, despite being often overlooked in public health debates and agendas, excessive noise exposure constitutes serious health risks and high societal costs as indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO).

This workshop is aimed at addressing this gap by engaging the NYC community with expert talks and soundwalks that will provide answers to important questions about city noise, including:

  • What exactly is noise pollution?

  • What reduction measures and strategies is NYC implementing?

  • What are quiet urban areas and what state-of-the-art measures exist for their identification and protection?

  • What is the “soundscape approach” to noise pollution? Why does it represent a citizen-driven paradigm shift?

  • What are the tools and resources available to take action and contribute to the protection of quiet areas in cities?

2019 SRI Conference Scholarship

Deadline to apply is July 8th

The emeritus representatives of FAFN founded the SRI scholarship to ensure that the culture, commitment, and competence of the pioneer SRI movement be sustained into the next generation.
