Dear <<First Name>>,

Welcome to the new Eco-Congregation Scotland Enews featuring the ten things you need to know about Eco-Congregation Scotland this month.

1. There are now 400 Eco-Congregations in Scotland

On 12th May Eco-Congregation Scotland reached a significant milestone when our 400th congregation, St Oswald Scottish Episcopal Church Kings Park and Castlemilk  registered. With 3750 church congregations in Scotland this means that over 10% are now eco-congregations and have made a commitment to take action on environmental issues. If your congregation is not registered please join us today. The button below will take you to our registration form.

2. Oikocredit: Tackling Poverty And Inequality Through Social Investment

As part of our work on divestment from fossil fuel investments we were recently visited by Oikocredit, the microfinance company set up by the World Council of Churches in 1975. They provide a range of ethical investments for individuals and organisations which help support small businesses and social enterprises in developing countries.

3. Grants Available From Action Earth Campaign 2017

Action Earth grants empower people in Scotland to take action and improve their local environment through volunteering activities.  If you are part of a group who are creating or improving community gardens or wildflower areas, ponds, woodlands or local green spaces, then they want to hear from you.  Action Earth can support you with easy-to access grants of between £50 to £500.

4. Join The UK Youth Climate Coalition’s International Delegation To The UN Climate Conferences

Are you young, full of energy & committed to climate justice? Apply to join the UKYCC international team for the annual United Nations Climate Conferences.

5. Welcome to new eco-congregations

As well as our 400th eco-congregation we have had several other sign ups this month. Please welcome St Ninians Episcopal Church, Ayrshire and SS John and St Nicholas RC parish, Broxburn. Please join us in welcoming them to our growing movement.

6. Congratulations to our new award winners

We would like to congratulate Priestfield Parish Church Edinburgh on their first Eco-Congregation award and St Peter's RC Parish Morningside on their second award. Your congregation can apply for an award too. Click the button below to find out more.

7. Pilgrim Routes Map

If you attended our Annual Gathering last month and enjoyed all the talk about pilgrimage routes, you might like to see the map from the Scottish Pilgrim Routes Forum:

8. Is Christianity Good News for Animals?

For the last seven years, talented podcasters Tim Nash and Dave Ward have been interviewing leading Christian thinkers and practitioners from around the world. They have recently worked with the Christian animal welfare organisation Sarx to produce a special episode dedicated to animals and animal issues.

9. Take Part In The Campaign To Introduce A Deposit Return System For Bottles

Many of you will have met Jenni Hume from the Have You Got The Bottle? campaign at our AGM in April. Eco-Congregation Scotland partners with this campaign, which is urging Scottish Ministers to introduce a deposit return system for all drinks containers in Scotland. This would mean that people pay an extra 10p or so when they buy a drink in any glass, plastic or metal container, and then get a full refund when they return it for recycling. Deposit return has been shown to reduce litter, increase recycling, help to reduce emissions and create more jobs in the waste management sector.
