Scotland's Climate Week

Eco-Congregation Scotland is pleased to share the latest news and special events as we continue through Scotland's Climate Week, an annual event started in 2016 to help raise awareness of climate change and celebrate leadership across Scotland in taking action.

A majority of Scotland's churches are now included in plans by national Church denominations - and increasingly local congregations taking steps themselves - to be "Net Zero" or carbon neutral over the coming decade, reducing our own damaging impact on climate change and contributing to Scotland becoming a
Net Zero Nation.

We welcome the growing response of churches and individuals across Scotland's faith and wider communities, committing to action as we approach the COP26 climate conference in Glasgow on 31 October.

We are delighted to share news that Keep Scotland Beautiful and the Scottish Government have spaces open to all this afternoon for a special online event:

Introduction to the Climate Emergency

Following opening remarks from the Cabinet Secretary for Net Zero, Energy and Transport, Michael Matheson MSP, there will be some training on the climate emergency, then information on COP26 and Scotland’s ambition, followed by a panel Question and Answer session.

It will be of particular interest for those who are starting their eco journey in their churches, or are less familiar with - or would like to know more about - the climate emergency and

This is the first ever Climate Week event open to everyone, as the Scottish Government and national organisations recognise, emphasise and encourage the need for local leadership and individual behaviour change.

If you are free to take part, it would be great to have more eco-congregations represented. Please register at the following link:

Scotland's Climate Week runs this year from Monday 13 to Sunday 19 September, you can find out more at:

If you or your own church is taking action, please share your pledge to encourage others to act for COP26. Please email us to share online your pledge, either as an individual or organisation - or share on social media if you can and let others know by using #ScotClimateWeek and tagging @ScotGovNetZero.

Climate Conversations

What will life be like in 2030?

How will we all be living?

What changes do you want to see in your local community, and across Scotland by 2030?

Join our Climate Conversations to consider what our options might be - locally and nationally – in reducing the causes and effects of a changing climate.

These takes place during
Scotland's Climate Week (13–19 September 2021) when organisations across the country aim to promote the message that, together, we can reach Net Zero and cut Scotland’s contribution to climate change.

The Scottish Government has initiated these conversations to encourage discussion about how we can reduce the emissions that cause climate change and prepare for a changing climate.  We want to hear your views, hopes and concerns.
