2. Duffus, Spynie & Hopeman Churches Receive Eco-Congregation Award

Duffus, Spynie and Hopeman church have received their first Eco-Congregation award – congratulations! The assessors were very impressed with the standard of environmental care and engagement in all three of the linked churches. We now have 116 churches who have at least one Eco-Congregation Award.

3. I’m Dreaming Of A Green Christmas

A natural remedy for festive fever has been prepared by Christian conservation charity ARocha UK – in the form of a ‘green’ online Advent calendar.

Daily doses of environmental advice offer to settle those seasonal challenges – from the thorny problem of Christmas trees to the drastic plastic of shop-bought decorations. Each calendar window opens on a practical plan to soothe the stress on both pocket and planet.

4. Edinburgh Vigil For The Climate

On December 7th, is lining up candle-solar lantern lit vigils all over the world in support of the Climate meeting (COP20) happening in Lima, Peru. 

In Edinburgh, there will be a multi-faith service to which everyone is invited, on Sunday 7th December. Come and be a #LightForLIMA and help bring a positive message to world leaders to give them more determination to reach a good deal.

The multi-faith service will be on Sunday 7th at Small Hall, Community Church (CCE), South Clerk Sreet, Edinburgh. from 5pm-5.45pm. Please email Liz at if you intend to come along. To find CCE’s Small Hall go down the left-hand passageway beside the church – just press the buzzer beside the door and you will be welcomed in; the Small Hall is on the 1st floor.

5. “For The Love Of” Campaign Events For St Valentine’s Day

Eco-Congregation Scotland is a member of Stop Climate Chaos Scotland, a coalition of 60 organisations in Scotland campaigning together on climate change.

They are requesting groups to get involved in running events as part of their For The Love Of campaign around the time of St Valentine’s Day, 14th February 2015. Some organisations will be running street stalls. We are recommending congregations to run an after service stall if they are unable to do this.

We will be sending further information about the campaign to all eco-congregations in the next few weeks, but for now you might like to watch the For the Love of campaign video:

6. New Event Flyer Available

To complement our main recruitment leaflet we have produced a new A5 flyer for use at events. This double sided leaflet explains what Eco-Congregation Scotland does, and provides our contact details.

7. Climate Change – Can I Make A Difference?

Eco-Congregation Ireland has published a very good resource on a Christian response to climate change. Although it covers specifically Irish issues it also contains useful information that is equally relevant to Scotland.

8. Presentations Available From The Last Aberdeen Network Meeting

At the most recent Aberdeen network meeting two inspiring presentations were given on the topic of church renovations. These presentations are now available to access online.

9. New Events Calendar

We now have an online calendar to easily find events that eco-congregations are hosting around the country.

Network meetings, our Environmental Chaplain Rev Trevor Jamison’s worship-leading and talk sessions, as well as events such as our Annual Gathering and supported events such as Fast for the Climate will all be included.

10. Donate

Eco-Congregation Scotland relies on donations from local congregations, parishes and individuals. This money is used to help support local networks and assist local congregations with registration and applying for the Eco-Congregation award. If you would like to make a donation (one off or monthly) you can do this online here, or contact us for postal details.
