Free range work

Flexible work options key to retaining women lawyers

This week VWL will launch its new Flexible Work Protocols - part of VWL's response to the findings of the Law Council of Australia's National Attrition and Re-engagement Study. The protocols aim to help lawyers and legal practices effectively manage flexible work without sacrificing career progression. They also promote sponsorship and mentoring as ways to bring more women through to senior ranks of the legal profession.

Registration now open for 2015 VWL & WBA Law Student Mentoring Program
Now in its eighth year, the Law Student Mentoring Program is a unique opportunity for female law students to gain insight into working in the law, develop valuable networks and share ideas with mentors in the legal profession.
For mentors, there is the satisfaction that comes from helping to shape the career of a female law student.

The Program is endorsed by Commissioner, the Honourable Marcia Neave AO.

All-woman mooting competition
It's not too late to register your interest in participating in VWL's new mooting competition for Victorian women lawyers.
A key objective of the initiative is to encourage women lawyers with limited public speaking experience to get involved in advocacy – whether it be to build up general public speaking confidence or to explore the possibilities of a future career at the Bar.

VWL's website is having a makeover! 1 June 2015 is targeted as the new site's launch date. VWL seeks a web content manager to assist with the website upgrade and on an ongoing basis once the new site is operational.

Getting involved in a VWL committee is a valuable way to work on some great projects, meet like-minded women lawyers, get a feel for how VWL operates, learn about governance and leadership, and earn CPD points (up to 3 points for committee participation).
