Dame Roma continues to inspire in 2015

The new year is now well underway, as is VWL's annual program of events and projects. One of the most significant events of VWL's calendar will take place next week - the Dame Roma Mitchell Memorial Luncheon. This is an important occasion for any lawyer, and particularly women lawyers. Register before the lunch sells out!

Oration by Associate Professor Clare Wright, winner of the 2014 Stella Prize for her most recent book, The Forgotten Rebels of Eureka. Presented by VWL in conjunction with the Law Institute of Victoria and supported by The Stella Prize, a major literary award celebrating Australian women’s writing.

Join VWL's Women in Government Committee for refreshments, networking opportunities and a keynote address by Magistrate Rose Falla. Magistrate Falla will address the 2015 International Women's Day theme, Make It Happen by reflecting upon and sharing her experiences as a member of the judiciary and prior to her 2013 appointment, as a government lawyer.

Wanted - Project Manager - Women Migrants Legal Information Project
The WMLI Project's current focus is broadcasting community radio announcements - in English as well as languages spoken by emerging migrant communities - with the aim of informing migrant women about their legal rights. This work is supported by the Victoria Law Foundation.
VWL seeks a Project Manager for the current assignment, one day per week for three months. The Project Manager will drive and oversee the implementation of this aspect of the pilot, including project planning, liaising with partner organisations and collating data regarding project outcomes. The role possibly may be extended to project management of the full-scale project, subject to funding. 
The successful candidate will be qualified in law, communications or project management, or nearing degree completion in one of those areas. Fluency in either or both Vietnamese and Mandarin is highly desirable.

Casual vacancy - Secretary - Executive committee
Expressions of interest sought for the position of Secretary, effective 25 March 2015 to next AGM.

The Secretary's general duties are to keep:

> minutes of resolutions and proceedings of meetings
> copies of all correspondence and records of members.
If a number of expressions of interest are received you may be asked to provide a short explanation of why you want to be Secretary, for consideration at the VWL executive commitee meeting on 25 March.

VWL's committees focus on:
> justice, law reform and work practices
> communications and networking
> women in government
> women migrant's legal information.
