Calling all Team Players!

Now that the snow has melted, we can actually imagine getting back onto the courts for another fun season of tennis. For those members who enjoy competitive play, this newsletter is for you. This year we are fielding 5 teams (2 InterCounty evening and 3 Ladies' day teams). All teams play doubles matches which alternate between home and away. For more details regarding teams including practices and matches, see our website at lawrenceparktennisclub.ca/compete/league-teams/. Here is a quick overview for those who are interested in joining a team--tryouts start in just a few weeks.

Our captains welcome and encourage members old and new to come try out, even if you have never played on a team before. This year all tryouts will be held indoors so that weather is not a factor. Each team will hold two tryouts--come to one or both. Please note the following: 1) you must attend at least one tryout to be eligible to join a team and are encouraged to attend practices regularly; and 2) you may only join one team per season as a regular player. To assist the Captains in scheduling, please advise the appropriate Captain(s) below by April 20th which tryout(s) you will be attending.

FROM THE BOARD:
New Board Member
We are pleased to announce a new member to our Board of Directors. Cecelia Thng has joined as Games Chair as Dirk Vanhauwert had to step away due to other commitments. Cecelia has been an LPTC member for several years, an active member on our competitive teams, and has prior Board experience with other tennis clubs. She will lead a Committee of volunteer members who have offered to help out with this diverse and busy portfolio which includes House League, Competitive Team Leagues, Club Championships, etc. Thanks to Dirk for his contribution to date and to Cecelia and her team for the coming season.

LPTC Start Time Update
We have great news to report. You may have noticed when our website was first released, that starting hours were recorded as 8:00am instead of the 7:00am start time we enjoyed last year.  This was based on an indication from the City that all tennis clubs could only start at 8:00am in 2015 (there had been complaints from neighbours at other clubs about the 7:00am start time). Our members were disappointed with this decision and let us know it. Based on these concerns, the Board submitted a formal request to the City to reconsider this decision for Lawrence Park Tennis Club. We are pleased to report that our Permit has been revised to allow a 7:00am start time once again for 2015. This is reviewed every year by the City, but for this season, if you want an early start on the courts, you have it. (As in prior years, we ask you to work with Tony, our court monitor, and his maintenance priorities if you're using the courts at this time.)
