"AFTER DINNER DOUBLES"
(A MIXED ROUND ROBIN) - JULY 8th

At our recent Open Forum, a member made the point that unlike years ago, evenings (especially Tues. and Wed.) are now very light, courts are open for play, and it is hard to get a pick up game since few members come to the club looking for a game at night.

Since we hate to see empty courts, we thought it would be a great idea to hold an evening event called "After Dinner Doubles" Wednesday night, July 8th to encourage members to come down and play at night. This will be a mixed round robin organized by Anita Strauss, one of our Co-Social Directors, and will run from 7:00 - 9:30 pm.

You don't need to pre-register, just come down to the Club at 7:00 pm, work off your dinner, find new tennis partners and have fun. If interest and participation are high, we will consider running more of these evening events. And remember, if you are looking for a good time to play, there is often lots of free court time Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.
FREE CLINIC -- JULY 15th
At the start of the season your Board decided we wanted to give back to our members by offering free monthly clinics (subject to participation) with our team of instructors. Participation has increased with each session, and we are pleased to announce our next free monthly Adult/Intermediate Clinic will be held on Wednesday, July 15th with one key change. While participation has been good in previous clinics, the 6-7 pm time slot was not as popular as the later time so we are changing things up a bit. This month clinics will be held from 7-8 pm and 8- 9 pm.

Pre-registration is required by clicking on the sign-up form below and choosing either the 7-8 pm or the 8-9 pm time session i.e. one session per person, and submitting the sign-up form no later than Monday, July 13th at 7:00 pm.  Reviews about past clinics have been positive, and we expect high interest with this time change, so register now and don't be disappointed.

Participation is limited to 18 players per session i.e. 6 per court.

"OPEN DOOR" TEA & TENNIS
JULY 12th

Three years ago we celebrated our Centennial with our lawn bowling/croquet playing neighbours. "Open Door" (well, really "Open Gate") was a very successful part of those joint celebrations as LPTC members exchanged their racquets for a "rock" (i.e. lawn bowling ball) or croquet mallet, and our neighbours were invited to try out our courts.

On Sunday, July 12th from 2 - 4 pm, we will again open the door between our two clubs so members can mingle, get to know each other better, and try out each other's game of choice. Our neighbours will introduce LPTC members to lawn bowling and croquet, while we'll encourage them to get out on our courts and hit some balls. If anyone has a spare racquet, please bring it along for our tennis guests. Tea and refreshments will be served in the LPTC club house. We share a long history with our neighbours, a sense of tradition (including a white dress code), and love of our respective sports, so getting together for a few hours of fun is long over due.

This is a chance for LPTC members to see "if the grass is really greener" on the other side of the fence. This event will be hosted by: Mary Kaye and Phil Parsons from the Bowling and Croquet Club and John Mowat, Gerhard Weiss, Puica Nitu and Nellie Poucheva from LPTC.
Both clubs are looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible.

LPTC MEMBERS "SEE RED" (& WHITE)

The morning of July 1st saw a full house of patriotic members decked out in red and/or white to celebrate Canada Day in style. This was the first time we've invited members to honour our country's birthday in our national colours and it was a hit. It was a real "mix and match" as many members met and played with other members they have never played with before.  A new tradition is born.

Next door the lawn bowling and croquet club also donned their red and white (a long term tradition for them), and took a break around 11 am to gather 'round their flagpole and sing O Canada. Patriotism was alive and well in both Lawrence Park clubs today.
