The 2016 House League finished this past week with a wrap up pizza party and Round Robin and a mini tournament amongst HL members.

The HL captains did a wonderful job of organizing their team members for their weekly matches, which is no small job as they had to deal with unexpected absenteeism and at the same time try to do their best to arrange the right pairings. There were 6 teams all named after well known tennis Opens with 70 members participating.

Thank you Captains: Carole Ambrose (Team Australian Open); Irwin Davis (Team Davis Cup); Terry Delovitch (Team French Open); Raza Ali (Team Rogers Cup); Harvey Gold (Team US Open); Alan Abrams (Team Wimbledon).  We also have to thank our official "scribe" who has kept scores for all the matches, Harvey Gold. A special thank you goes out to Janet Blair who ran a new interesting way of organising our Round Robin.
The House League ended with a little friendly mini tournament, led by Raza Ali, for those who were interested in some competition but did not want the pressure of a full tournament. The players played pro-sets to 4 games (tie-breaker at 4-all). All entrants were guaranteed two matches. Congratulations to all the participants and the winners were….

Flight A:
  • Winners: Margaret Esterhuizen and Dan Ondrack
  • Finalists: Fred Yagi and Irina Klenkin
  • Consolation: Andy Kingsmill and Gwen Sutherland
Flight B:
  • Winners: Sayuri Yonekawa and Ben Jetten
  • Finalists: Sandra Douglas and Harvey Gold
Thank you Raza for organizing the mini tournament.

Cecelia Thng, Games Director

Wednesday After-Dinner-Drop-In tennis has come to an end
Thank you all who made an effort to drop in and hit a few balls. See you next season!!!

For those looking to continue to hit in the evenings, Monday House League is now done so Mondays and Tuesdays are good nights to find a court. The weeks of September 7, 14 and 21, Wednesday and Thursday evenings will be bustling with tournament matches.

You may have noticed that two of our nets had developed holes where the net cord meets the netting. This past week an industrious 'net fairy' appeared with needle and thread and made the repairs in time for our tournament season!

No more sneaky shots through the nets...

Many thanks to members who brought it to the Board and Tony's attention and especially to the net fairy (who wishes to remain anonymous).

The parking restrictions on the south side of Dawlish Avenue (the street that runs along the top of the hill north of the Club) have been removed at the neighbourhood's request. Specifically, parking is now permitted at any time with no one hour restriction on the side of Dawlish Avenue that borders the park. (The City's usual three hour parking restriction will still apply.)

This is in an effort to reduce speeding traffic along that street and the speed limit is being lowered to 30mph soon too (so be careful!).

LPTC members who wish to park on Dawlish Avenue may now do so at any hour. But beware, the parking restriction between 8am-10am on Weybourne Crescent (which is west of Dawlish Avenue and east of Yonge Street) still applies.

Adam Dykes is leading our Junior Fall Programs with the able assistance of Christian Bunea (who has been teaching our juniors for a number of years). The programs start next Saturday, September 10th and there are lots of exciting options for budding tennis players.

If you would like more information for you children, grandchildren, neighbours... please click on the button below. Registration ends this Monday, September 5th.
