Lawrence Park Tennis Club
"Between the Lines"
June 4, 2015

Wow--can you believe our club has already been open for over a month since the 2015 season started? Since our very successful Opening Day where a good time was had by all, we've held two nights of Adult Clinics, a Men's and Ladies' Round Robin, seen House League and Early Birds remain as popular as ever, and launched our Ladies' and InterCounty League teams. Seven newsletters have been sent regarding coming events and containing important information for members. If you missed any of our newslettters, remember they're all posted on the website. In this edition, we highlight the following topics:
  • Sunday Tea & Tennis Returns
  • Court 3 Reservations
  • Booking Private/Semi-Private Lessons
  • Wilson Ont. Sr Mixed Doubles Championship--50th Anniversary
Sunday Tea & Tennis Returns - June 7th
Starting this weekend we are bringing back our popular "Tea & Tennis" every Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 pm during June and July (subject to participation). Puica Nitu will co-ordinate this program which is a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon--join in a social round robin accompanied by light refreshments and tea in the clubhouse. There is no need to register--just show up at the courts and play, eat, sip. Come meet your fellow members, find new tennis partners and make new friends over "Tea and Tennis." See you on Sundays, 2:00 - 4:00.

To help make these socials successful, we need volunteers who will bring some kind of goodies like cake, cookies, fruit, etc. at least once during June and July. Whether home-made or store-bought, anything you bring will be appreciated by our members. Please pick a Sunday and let us know what you would like to bring by using the sign-up sheet in the clubhouse.

The courts were really hopping in May with members who tagged up or took advantage of our Court 3 reservation system. Our reserved court has proven very popular this month so for the benefit of our new members, as well as a refresher for returning members, we want to remind everyone of the following rules:
  • Court 3 bookings are entered into the binder located beside the phone in the clubhouse.
  • Reservations can only be made up to 6 days in advance (e.g. if you are booking on a Monday, you may only book up to Sunday). Your name will be erased if you exceed the 6 day timeframe.
  • Members may reserve a maximum 3 times per week (Monday to Sunday), including lessons.
  • Court 3 reservations cannot be made by leaving a voice message on the club phone.

Self-improvement is in the air--we're seeing a lot of members booking lessons now to tune up for the coming months. To ensure everyone is aware of the procedures for booking lessons, here is what you need to know:
  • Members can book a lesson directly with any of our pros (see our website for more information).
  • Lessons may only be held on court 3.
  • It is the member's responsibility to book court 3 within the 6 day advance period.
  • Lessons count toward your maximum 3 bookings per week..
This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Wilson Ontario Mixed Doubles Championship, one of the most popular and prestigious events of the season. Held over one weekend (June 19th - 21st), the tournament is open to a variety of age categories starting at age 30 up to 70+. This fun yet competitive event takes place at the Toronto Lawn Tennis Club on Price St. in the Yonge/Summerhill area. In addition to competitive tennis, this event includes admission to the dinner dance Sat. night for a fee of $80 per player. Participants may also bring non-playing guests to the dinner dance for a fee of $50. Come join this very successful and longstanding event.

For more information and a copy of the entry form, click here. Entry forms must be submitted online or by hard copy (no telephone entries) by noon on June 15th.
