Royal News: Issue 83

What an evening!

Friday 27th will go down as one of the best evenings we have had for a long time. The weather did not deter us and the Club rocked. The raffle was well supported with over 160 tickets sold!

A big thank you to Trisha Matheson for doing the honours for the draw. The lucky winners Phil Downing and Grant Wessels had shared a ticket. And well deserved winners they were. CONGRATULATIONS! Team work at its best.

The yacht was immediately sold to the Boormans who aim to be the new kid on the block in the burgeoning L26 fleet. Watch them take on the establishment. Good luck team B2G2

Before the draw there was much excitement as Keith Brodie held an auction to be remembered. Spirits where high and Keith did a sterling job and getting the crowd to re-distribute their cash. We raised over R 90 000 for the club, this goes nicely towards reducing our debt.

A BIG thank you to our generous sponsors. It may have had something to do with the free beer and sherry handed out but a big thank you to the fantastic members who bought so willingly.

With evenings like this and the continued support from our members I can see us going from strength to strength. The debt is coming down and the staff moral is high. Lets hope for some better weather so we can all enjoy our fantastic club over the festive season.

Don’t forget the Xmas party on the 16th of December for our young ones. We will keep flying the flag for them.

With the sailing season going as well as it has been, we've found ourselves in need of a few more helping hands.

At the moment, we're looking for volunteers for race support, either qualified and licensed motor boat skippers or general deck-hands/assistants (training will be provided for those who are eager but do not have any experience).

Volunteers can choose whether to do offshore, bay or Wednesday evening duties. This would be on a rotation basis.

We are not asking for a commitment to every event but to as many or as few as willing to contribute. As they say, many hands make light work!
Enjoy the thrills of watching racing at close range from the safety and comfort of the bridge boat!
