Runner's Rave Read

Running For My Life is the true story of a lost boy, Lopez Lamong, in war-torn Sudan. At age six, Lamong escaped imprisonment as a child soldier and ran for 3 days and nights. He endured the next 10 years of life in a refugee camp in Kenya where he would regularly run 18 miles before being allowed to play soccer. In 1996 his life was changed by a chance encounter with a television set. Lamong saw Michael Johnson win the 400m Olympic gold for the United States of America. Lamong knew at once that he wanted to run in the Olympics, and he wanted to wear USA across his chest. Then began the incredible journey of faith, luck, hard work and commitment that took him from a Sudanese civil war casualty to US flag-bearer at the 2008 Olympic Games.
This is an inspiring story that will leave you amazed by the power of unswerving self-belief and the power to endure the seemingly impossible.

The annual Spring Has Sprung 5K/10K will be held on May 1st!
The race starts and finishes at Coyote Valley Elementary and tours the neighborhoods of Hidden Valley Lake. The event is put on by the wonderful Lake County Milers.
