Special Olympics Assosication - State Games

What a super day was had for all 11 of our riders and our fabulous band of volunteers at the Special Olympic State Games held at Karinya Park, Orange Grove on June 4th. The camaraderie was just fabulous and so supportive of all who competed.

From the wonderful Joanne Blomquist:

"Congratulations to all our Special Olympic Equestrians. It was a fabulous day of competition and inspirational to be part of your achievements. CTRC and M'liss Henry generously supplied 10 immaculately turned out horses and ensured all riders were prepared for their dressage test and competition. RDA and Julie Nicholson ( Liz Harvey, Jenny Loftus and Fleur Litster) did a fabulous job of organising planning and ensuring the competition came together in such a professional format.

Special Olympics is such a wonderful organisation than provide a platform for people with intellectual differences to showcase their abilities on an international and national platform.
Gooooo you wonderful athletes"

RDA WA 4 Phase Champs at the State Equestrian Centre

Wow, another long but great day was had by all on both days of the RDA 4 Phase Champs. Dressage and English Equitation events were on the first day with all our riders, horses, and volunteers doing a great job! Special thanks to Louise, Nadine, Monika, Yvonne and Lilly for helping out with our horses and riders!

All of our riders won major placings but special congratulations to Jasmin Steiner who scored the highest dressage percentage for the day on our good friend Apple!

On the second day all riders competed in an obstacle course, timed walk and trot lines – both fast and slow and also a jumping course over poles.  Masses of ribbons were handed out all day long and I’m sure all riders had a great time.  Special thanks to RDA for organising the event, our ever so helpful parents who attended and helped clean stables etc, and of course to the fab volunteers and of course M’liss !
Our very own Louise and Spud have made it into a National Magazine!
Well done the pair for finishing third in Outback magazine's RM Williams Boot Competition
Our GoFundMe donation!

Aimee Bell, a former rider of ours, and her team at UWA set us up a fund raiser to purchase new signage for the centre and new equipment as one of this semesters uni assignment for their business course.

Thank you to Aimee and her team, and all our wonderful ctrc family who donated to this fundraiser! The new signage is on it’s way and no surprise that Aimee received a High Distinction for her efforts!
Our friends at Wembley Supa IGA popped down to give us a surprise - a delivery of super delicious apples. We can't tell who enjoyed them more - horses or humans!!

Thanks to Tim and the Wembley crew for coming down!
We have been gifted two shiny new first aid kits to ensure that everyone that comes to the centre is safe and sound! Huge thanks to Travis from ResponsePlus for supplying these kits to us!
May 8-14 was National Volunteer Week which gave us the perfect opportunity to gush about our super-amazing-wonderful volunteers that keep the centre a happy place to be!

To keep a not-for-profit strong, many generous souls have to give their time; and we have that in the bucket loads! To our horse handlers, trainers, riding assistance, to our friends that muck out the stalls and feed our ponies, to our wonderful administration staff - thank you!
Massive thanks to Ian and Rhys from Limerick Farms who donated and delivered 48 bales of beautiful meadow hay to us this month! The horses are absolutely loving it!!

If you are looking for some quality hay for your steeds, check them out!
We are thankful to become the Paraplegic Benefit Fund's (PBF) newest corporate member!

Jacqui invited Katie Stokes from PBF to our annaul show jumping fundraiser event to tell her all about our centre!
Our good friends at the Disabled Children's Foundation put on a fundraiser raffle again this year! Best of luck to everyone who purchased a ticket and a massive thanks to the Disabled Children's Foundation!!

A shoutout to Pauline from the Dandaragan Vet Services for kindly donating her dentistry services and her great sense of humour to us! She loves the work that we are doing with our disabled clients, and is doing her part by helping out our horses!

Inspiration rider of the Month - Cayden Pearce

Our inspirational rider for May is such a delight of a human being: the superstar Cayden Pearce.

Cayden has been participating in the Rider Therapy program at CTRC for nearly two years and has come back from major pelvic surgery to continue in the program. His progress has been fantastic with improvement in balance, coordination and motor planning, so much so he is now developing skills used
to start riding independently.

Cayden's determination and attitude towards learning this new skill and being able to steer, stop and ask Henry to go are inspiring. He is always happy and keen to learn and his infectious giggles make working with him a pleasure - RideTherapy Joanne Blomquist.

Keep shining star!

Volunteer of the Month - Sue Sparkes

Our gem of a volunteer Sue Sparkes is our 'Volunteer of the Month' for May!

"I have a Cert 3 and 4 in Disability Support and was first introduced to CTRC through Local Area Coordination who sent me to take a client who had an interest in horses to CTRC – that was 20 years ago and I have been here ever since!!

My experience with CTRC is that it is a beautiful shared supportive community which actively includes people with all disabilities and the people who bring them. I am always learning something new. The learning, communication and social acceptance is reflective of the people who manage CTRC and I enjoy every minute when I’m there. So does my health (so the fitbit watch tells me!)"

This wonderful lady is a real treasure at the CTRC and we are so thankful for her volunteering for people in need!

Achiever of the Month - Monika Magalengo

I'm sure everybody has seen this fabulous lady around the stables - a round of applause for our May 'Achiever of the Month' - Monika Magalengo

Monika has had a huge past four weeks. For those of you who don’t know Monika personally, she can often been seen very early in the morning at CTRC working with M’Liss’ Off The Track horses – re-educating them to become school and competition horses and then on the weekends competing on them at WA Showjumping competitions.

“I have very fortunately had a very good month and have been getting lots out of my lessons. In return, the horses I ride have been responding well and making good progress. A recent highlight was being on the winning team at the PCAWA State Tetrathlon Championship and having a super day at our recent fundraising showjumping day.

When I’m not at the stables I am at TAFE and am currently studying AUSLAN ( Australian Sign Language) which has been lots of fun and should be most helpful around CTRC. I am also looking forward to completing my Equestrian Australia Intro Coaching so I can help M’Liss even more around CTRC."

Congratulations superstar, you have been smashing your goals every month!
