LOVE INC OF THE CEDAR VALLEY
SEPTEMBER 2015

September is a great month for getting back into important routines. One of those at Love INC is gathering and celebrating our volunteers. Take a look at some of the volunteer gatherings that are coming up next month ...

SMALL ITEM DELIVERY VOLUNTEERS
(those of you who deliver food, baby items, kitchen essentials, etc. during the weekdays)

JOIN US ON WEDNESDAY, OCT 7 AT 1:30 PM
APPLEBEE'S IN CEDAR FALLS
[appetizers]

This is an opportunity for us to thank you for your faithful service to our community as well as discuss how to become even better at connecting to our clients in their homes. Email erin.tink@loveinccv.org to RSVP.

CLEARINGHOUSE VOLUNTEERS
(those of you who answer our phone, make intake calls, write postcards, provide administrative support and data entry)

JOIN US ON TUESDAY, OCT 20 FROM 12:00-1:00 PM
NAZARETH LUTHERAN CHURCH, ROOM 156
[lunch]

This will be a wonderful time of connecting with those of you who serve in our Clearinghouse week in and week out. We'll use this time to discuss ways we can improve our intake process - especially as it relates to getting our clients connected to Transformation Ministry. Email erin.tink@loveinccv.org if you can join us.
Did you know that we accept donations of furniture in good condition?

We have delivery teams that go out to pick up donations and deliver to those in need twice per month.

We accept: beds, dressers, couches, loveseats, dining tables/chairs, refrigerators and stoves.

If you would like to volunteer on one of these teams or donate furniture, email donations@loveinccv.org.

For nearly a year we have been arranging a ride for one gentleman to make a monthly trip to both ALDI and Walmart with one of our volunteers. He lives on a fixed income and he is very strategic with his grocery shopping trips - buying only what is on his list and, from what we can tell, the same items each month.

When he first started to contact Love INC to arrange a ride, he was quiet and reserved and he didn't give us much information about his circumstances. Nevertheless, we continued to arrange his rides and pray with him each time he called.

We send the same volunteer to pick him up as often as possible. Some time along the way this arrangement turned into a friendship. This gentleman is beginning to open up to our volunteer and when we follow up with both of them it's obvious they enjoy their time together.

It's amazing to see how time, consistency and just the right amount of intentionality has softened the heart of someone we deemed hard to reach.
