February 2015

Welcome to the Love INC Newsletter! We'll be sending this email monthly in an effort to keep you up-to-date with the latest information from Love INC of the Cedar Valley.

It's an exciting month at Love INC! We have several new initiatives happening:

Our new Redemptive Compassion study for Love INC volunteers and church partners started on Thursday, February 5. This study is helping us wrestle with how to serve our community with holistic perspective and long-term sustainability in mind. Twenty-one people are participating.

The winter session for Transformation Ministry is underway. Twenty-two Love INC clients are taking advantage of classes in budgeting, living & growing and creating a fresh start.

Do you deliver food, baby items, furniture or appliances to our clients? Do you provide transportation or home repair?

If so, please join us for a Volunteer Gathering for Community Volunteers coming up on Monday, February 23 from 7-8 p.m. at Prairie Lakes Church Waterloo (118 High St, Waterloo 50703).

During this gathering we will:
  • Give you information on how to best connect with clients during your appointments
  • Get feedback from you regarding clients and appointments
  • Discuss furniture/appliance delivery schedules
  • Implement a new schedule for small item (food, baby item) deliveries
If you plan to attend, please reply to this email and let Erin know.

A single mom who was a regular attender at one of our partner churches recently moved to Dunkerton. It was cheaper to find good housing there and she got a job locally. She was getting by and we hadn't heard from her for two years.

Her only daughter has a heart condition which regularly requires her to get to various medical appointments.

In the fall of 2014 she began to miss work due to her daughter's condition and eventually lost her job. In order to save money she reduced her car insurance to just liability coverage. As luck would have it she was in a car accident shortly after - the car was totaled.

In her desperation she called Love INC to see if we might be willing to deliver food and essentials to her home. Because she attended a partner church prior to her transportation issues, we made an exception and delivered beyond our service area. In addition she asked for a carseat for her daughter so that they could still get rides to her medical appointments. It's not something we normally provide, but we decided to make another exception and we purchased a brand new carseat to deliver along with the food.

Love INC surprised her with the delivery! She was thrilled! It was a blessing to have not only one but two of her burdens lifted as she cares for the well-being of her daughter and herself in these difficult times.
