Touchstone Center for Children
May News

Greetings,
On Saturday, April 9th ,  The Touchstone Center, in collaboration with the Manhattan-Country School, presented Something, Somewhere: A Celebration of the Spaces of our Imagination,  a workshop for children and their families highlighting the unique role the school’s Music Room has played in nurturing the arts and the life of the imagination. In addition to a moving performance by Clea Rivera and Harry Mann of In The Space of the Sky, the day began with an evocative video, Something, Somewhere That Is A Room, created by Gerard Giraldo. The video uses archival photographs from the Center to accompany the writings of children, whom I had the pleasure of teaching from 1967-1973.

The final session of Our Wondering, Our Imagining, a lunchtime conversation on the nature of the imagination with a self-selected group of  3rd grade children at PS 99 in Queens took place on April 20th. Collaborating with visual-artist Karen Fitzgerald, this six-session monthly conversation explored the reflectiveness of water as a metaphor of our imagining minds and how, through art and writing, we can gain another insight into the importance of our imaginative expressiveness.

Best,

Richard
