1. A Big 'Welcome' to all Students & Families
Welcome to all of our school families for 2020!
Last Friday our school community both new and returning gathered in our West Campus Gym and East Campus Sports Precinct to mark the beginning of the new year at Rowville Secondary College. On this very hot day we welcomed our year 7’s to the school, all cheering as they entered the assembly on their very first day as secondary students. Our new staff and new year 8 to 12 students were also warmly welcomed to the college.
A moving video tribute put together by our school captains to thank our brave and courageous Fire Fighters followed. “Watching this video to the song I am Australian “we are one, we are many” brought tears to my eyes – everyone was still and silent,” said one school parent.
Our College Principal, Ms. Julie Kennedy welcomed everyone and set the school theme for the year ‘Respect’. “We should all ‘expect to get respect and we are obliged to give respect’,” said Ms. Kennedy explaining all students would spend period 3 & 4 on a Respect lesson, what it looks like, sounds like, feels like and creates. Next, our year 8 student Govind Gomatam gave an insightful talk on what respect means to him and we all watched a fun video of all the school staff singing and dancing to a Rowvillized version of the famous Aretha Franklin song R-E-S-P-E-C-T.
Finally, our 2019 students with 100% attendance were given an award and acknowledgement by the school (see story 4). Thank you to all the families who came along to support the school and their children and here's to a fantastic year ahead. *For more photos jump on our Facebook page.
