March 2019
Hey everyone! A very happy Sunday to you all!

I was pretty startled to (happily) discover that March was Cardplayer Lifestyle's second-highest trafficked month ever, so I guess this means I've got to put together our second-best newsletter ever, eh? Well, I'll try...

We published over 20 articles this month, including a steady diet of strategy pieces along with some op-eds, poker event news, and, of course, poker lifestyle features. Thank you all so much, as always, for your support and encouragement.

I'm writing to you after having returned from a really enjoyable trip to PokerStars' EPT Sochi. There had been a lot that I was looking forward to and I'm thankful to have enjoyed many fun and interesting experiences, some of which I've posted on social media or published articles about while others I haven't yet shared with the world #comingsoon. Thanks to all of you who've engaged with said content, and for your Likes, comments, and shares; they're very much appreciated!

Thanks once again to the iNinja Poker Tour for sponsoring this newsletter. This month, tour co-owner (and our veteran contributor) Chris Wallace shared with us an exclusive, unique recap of the tour's latest event, held at the Atlantis Casino and Resort in Reno, NV. It makes for a fun read!

This past month on the Red Chip Poker Podcast, I had the pleasure of interviewing another four interesting and entertaining individuals from the world of poker: Tommy Angelo, Chris Wallace, Jeff Platt, and Zach Elwood. From renowned authors to player/tour owners to broadcasters to body language experts, it's an eclectic cast of poker's finest characters to have had the pleasure of interacting with.

Go ahead and tune in!

Bruce Briggs and I put together another couple episodes of the biweekly Top Pair Home Game Poker Podcast as well. In the episodes we released this past month, we spoke Run It Once Poker's Phil Galfond about his home game history as well as how his Run It Once Training product first developed. It was a really fun conversation!

We also spoke to longtime listener Donna Lawton, who proudly represented us at the latest Charity Series of Poker event in Las Vegas, but unfortunately couldn't repeat as the event's champion this time around.

Be sure to have a listen!

As mentioned in last month's newsletter, Stas Tishkevich, co-founder of the Israel Poker Academy and co-creator of the Poker Fighter Training App has become a regular, new Cardplayer Lifestyle contributor.

Here are the latest of his video lessons that we've published:

Be on the lookout for more great, original FREE strategy content from Stas each and every Sunday! If you like it, share it with your friends. Your feedback is always welcome.

As March fades into the distance and April begins to dawn upon us, it's right around now that the attention of the collective poker world starts turning firmly towards the WSOP.

Well, aside from my wife, you guys are the first ones to get the news: I've just booked my ticket (literally, yesterday) and I'm headed to Las Vegas for the fourth consecutive summer. My dates are May 29-June 10 and I'm looking forward to... PLAYING.

I'll be crossing off sort of a "bucket list item" as I'll be entering the $1,500 Dealer's Choice event (begins June 3). It's my first bracelet event and an event I've been truly yearning to enter after 15 years of almost weekly dealer's choice home games. Thanks to everyone who has kindly bought a piece of my action!

I couldn't be more excited; let's just hope I'm not the first one to bust, LOL

Naturally, I'll also be working to produce new content for you guys while in Las Vegas, both WSOP-related and otherwise across all media channels. Keep your eyes peeled for other announcements of what I'll be up to during that trip. I'd love to see you; please let me know if and when you'll be around!
As always,
your feedback, constructive or otherwise, is most welcome.

A Tale of Two (Russian) Cash Games

Rather than sleep while abroad on my poker trips, I usually opt to play cash games through the night. On this latest trip to Russia for the 2019 EPT Sochi, I played in two sessions on back-to-back nights, and for all intents and purposes they couldn’t have been more different.

Here’s the story.

Interview with Jason Koon

Jason Koon stand out as one of poker’s top high rollers, achieving massive success on the greatest of the game’s stages. Recently, he signed on to be an ambassador for the prestigious Triton Poker Series.

Jason kindly agreed to this interview, in which we ask him about the high roller circuit, his role as a brand ambassador, and more.

Finding #Positivity in a Downswing – An Ode to the Poker Brat

Mike Patrick has been a Phil Hellmuth fan ever since the Poker Boom days and has the many pictures and Hellmuthian baubles to prove it. This article pays tribute to the legendary Poker Brat as Mike describe how he — like his poker idol — found himself in a situation where he managed to dodge bullets, baby.

Be sure to check out this enjoyable poker story.

100 Bracelets in 2019: Too Many or Not Enough?

World Series of Poker participant numbers continue to rise, right alongside the number of events being spread each year. With 100 bracelets on offer in 2019, are we close to hitting the ceiling?

In this op-ed, James Guill looks at how the value of a bracelet has changed over the years, and asks whether boosting the number of bracelet events even further is justified.
