May 2018
Hey everyone,
I've just gotten back home from Las Vegas, where I spent a glorious week enjoying all the festivities surrounding the World Poker Tour's Season XVI finale. From the inaugural Bobby Baldwin Classic, to the record-breaking field in the WPT Tournament of Champions, to player parties, to a stunning new eSports arena that will play host to all future televised WPT final tables, it was all very exciting to take in and experience firsthand. Of one thing I'm absolutely certain: The WPT sure knows how to treat poker players like champions.

In addition to our regular lifestyle features and strategy articles, our "Ask the Poker Experts" series continued as well, with this month's question focused on the online poker-related repercussions of the U.S. Supreme Court's landmark decision striking down PASPA. On that note, if you've got a burning poker question you'd like answered by some of the game's top coaches, players, media personalities, tournament directors, or industry experts, just send me an email.

Thanks, as always, to our newsletter's official poker tour sponsor, Next Level Poker. In this month's article, tour founder and WSOP bracelet winner Chris "Fox" Wallace put together a fantastic guide all about selling action, perfect for reference as we head into the WSOP. PODCAST NEWS: WiPHoF in the House!

Along with my co-host Bruce Briggs, I had the great pleasure of interviewing 2018 Women in Poker Hall of Fame (WiPHoF) inductee Lupe Soto on PokerNews' Top Pair Home Game Poker Podcast.

Best known for her tireless efforts to promote women in poker, Lupe has been working in the poker industry for close to two decades. In this interview, she publicly revealed - for the first time ever - the extent of her involvement in the online poker world during the industry's early years, as well as numerous inspiring behind-the-scenes stories of her career in women's poker advocacy. If you haven't already done so, please have a listen!

"RUNNING WELL" 1,000 km charity poker challenge update!

Running took a bit of a backseat due to my Las Vegas trip, but with 400km completed thus far, I'm still pretty much on pace to hit my 1,000km goal for 2018.

As a reminder, this year's beneficiary, Save a Child's Heart (SACH) aims to improve the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children in developing countries. You can learn more about their amazing work in this short video.

With a total of $6,400 in pledges thus far, we're well on our way towards hitting my 2018 goal of raising $10,000 for this wonderful organization. Of course, there's always plenty more room for additional sponsors with charitable endeavors. So, if you or the company you work for would like to make a pledge (all monies donated directly by you), please email me.

As with last year's challenge, you're all invited to follow my progress via Twitter at #charitypoker1000km.

I'm proud to announce the debut of a special miniseries, set to begin next week here at Cardplayer Lifestyle. Over the course of 10 consecutive days, we'll be releasing close to a dozen articles reviewing PokerGO's original programming. The series is sponsored by, whose support we are very thankful for.

Compiled by half a dozen contributing writers, this miniseries represents the first time PokerGO's original programming will have been reviewed in-depth, giving poker fans the full rundown of what they can expect from the network beyond their excellent streaming broadcasts of prestigious live events.

Finally, I'll be returning to Las Vegas once again at the end of next month to cover the World Series of Poker. As the entire poker world descends upon the Rio, I'm thrilled that I get to be in attendance for my third year in a row. My dates are June 25-July 15, so be sure to say hi if you see me walking the hallowed halls. Plus, I've got plenty of patches to give out for anyone who wants to show support for our site.

As always, your feedback, constructive or otherwise, is most welcome.

Thanks so much for your support and best of luck at and away from the tables!

- Robbie

Get to Know the Poker Media: Jayne Furman

A lifelong love of photography notwithstanding, one of poker’s most prominent photographers, Jayne Furman, only broke into the industry about six years ago. Since that time, Jayne’s pictures and images have delighted poker fans the world over and been burned into our collective memories. As such, we’re very honored to be the first poker media outlet to which she’s granted an interview.

We hope you enjoy learning more about Jayne, her career, and her personal story in the latest installment of our ongoing “Get to Know the Poker Media” interview series.
