July 2018
Hey everyone,
With the 2018 WSOP now in the rear view mirror, this tends to be a somewhat less busy time of year. Even so, there's still plenty going on in the poker world and we've got some fun stuff to look forward to as August dawns upon us.

Chief among that "fun stuff" is that I'm thrilled to be heading out to cover a poker event in Europe for the very first time! Tomorrow I'll be jetting off to Romania to be in attendance at the Unibet Open's latest stop, in Bucharest. I've got a whole slew of content planned, including interviews, features, and more that'll hopefully give you all a taste of what the experience is like. To only say that I'm "looking forward" to this next poker trip would be a big understatement. Oh, and Molly Bloom (yes, that Molly Bloom!) is supposed to be there, too!

Of course, this past month was plenty busy for us as well, so much so that Cardplayer Lifestyle experienced record-setting traffic of approximately 13,000 unique visitors. Thanks to all of you who've not only read our articles, but who've also kindly taken the time to share them with your friends on social media; those gestures are very much appreciated!

One of our articles was a news story we helped break, namely the resurrection of the iNinja Poker Tour. Cardplayer Lifestyle contributor Chris "Fox" Wallace is the co-owner of the tour (which is also the new official poker sponsor of this newsletter), and he was kind enough to give us the scoop.

In addition to our regular lifestyle features, op-eds, interviews, and strategy articles, our "Ask the Poker Experts" series continued as well, with this month's question featuring the highly decorated panel of Jan Fisher, Maria Ho, Matt Savage, and Mike Sexton. The foursome gave some excellent answers to the thorny question of "What to do when you're stuck with an unskilled dealer?"
On that note, if you've got a burning poker question you'd like answered by some of the game's top coaches, players, media personalities, tournament directors, or industry experts, just send me an email.

Also in July, I had the great pleasure of being a guest on the Bernard Lee Poker Show along with well-respected industry veteran (and Cardplayer Lifestyle contributor) Chad Holloway. The three of us had a delightful discussion recapping the highlights of the WSOP, as well as giving our "hot takes" on what can change and be improved for next year. When you have the chance, be sure to give it a listen!

"RUNNING WELL" 1,000 km charity poker challenge update!

With five months left to go in 2018, I'm still slightly behind the pace I had hoped to upkeep, but nonetheless quite proud to have completed 550km thus far towards my 1,000km goal.

As a reminder, this year's beneficiary, Save a Child's Heart (SACH) aims to improve the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children in developing countries. You can learn more about their amazing work in this short video.

I'd also like to take this opportunity to thank two new supporters - Christina Bradfield and Ben Jardine - who have kindly pledged $20 and $100 towards the cause, respectively. They join Simcha Simon, Michael Pagano, Jaime Staples, Jan Fisher, and Ory Weiss, as well as corporate sponsors Run It Once, PokerStars, and in having pledged a combined $6,520.

My goal is to raise $10,000 for the organization this year, so there's plenty room for more of you to join in support. So, if you or the company you work for would like to make a pledge (all monies donated directly by you), please email me.

As with last year's challenge, you're all invited to follow my progress via Twitter at #charitypoker1000km.

On a final note, if you'll be in Bucharest at the Unibet Poker Open and spot me walking around or playing at the cash game tables, be sure to come and say hi. I'll have plenty of patches on hand to distribute and would be more than happy to give you one. 😀

As always, your feedback, constructive or otherwise, is most welcome.

Thanks so much once again for your support and best of luck at and away from the tables!

- Robbie

Some Good Karma at the South Point Poker Room

During a recent visit to the South Point Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, I experienced a pretty surreal series of events. Being challenged to make the right moral decision in a somewhat tricky spot, I was fortunate enough to have good karma come back to reward me.

I hope you enjoy this story of positivity at the poker table.

Interview with Pokerati Founder Dan Michalski

Longtime poker fans are likely very familiar with, but perhaps less so with site founder Dan Michalski. I’m honored to have conducted this feature-length interview with Dan to learn about his career in the poker world and how the Pokerati site and brand developed from scratch into an industry powerhouse.

We hope you enjoy this unique look at a part of poker’s recent past, which will hopefully give you some additional appreciation for those who trailblazed the way for the current poker media corps.
