April 2018
Hey everyone,

April was an action-packed month for us at Cardplayer Lifestyle, featuring a lot of "new." For one, we published articles from two new contributors, Grzegorz Bochniak and Geoff Fisk, respectively.

We also inaugurated a new article series entitled "Ask the Poker Experts," with this month's question focused on online poker. On that note, if you've got a burning poker question you'd like answered by some of the game's top coaches, players, media personalities, tournament directors, or industry experts, just send me an email.

Thanks, as always, to our newsletter's official poker tour sponsor, Next Level Poker. In this month's article, tour founder and WSOP bracelet winner Chris "Fox" Wallace outlined a quandary we all face at the poker table, namely whether to "go with the math or our read." Check it out to see what the right answer is (or if there even is a right answer at all!).

Along with my co-host Bruce Briggs, I had the great pleasure of interviewing 2017 WSOP Main Event champion Scott Blumstein on PokerNews' Top Pair Home Game Poker Podcast. Over the course of an hour, we really got to know more about Scott beyond the bracelet bling. He's a true mensch with a genuine passion for the game, as well as a great ambassador for poker. If you haven't already done so, please have a listen!

"RUNNING WELL" 1,000 km charity poker challenge BIG update!

Glad to report that I'm solidly on pace to hit my 1,000km goal for 2018, having completed completed 330km thus far.

As a reminder, this year's beneficiary, Save a Child's Heart (SACH) aims to improve the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children in developing countries. You can learn more about their amazing work in this short video.

As promised in last month's newsletter, I have published a feature article about my incredible experience visiting their headquarters. Please read, SACH: A Charity That's Flush With Heart.

Moreover, I'm thrilled to let you all know that we received a BIG boost to our fundraising efforts thanks to the very generous pledges of Ory Weihs and Women in Poker Hall of Famer Jan Fisher. Each of them pledged $1 per kilometer towards the cause.

I'm also happy to report a new Corporate Sponsor,, who kindly pledged $.10 per kilometer.

Altogether, that raises our total to $6,400 in pledges thus far!

There's still a way to go towards my 2018 goal of raising $10,000 for this wonderful organization, and of course there's always plenty more room for additional sponsors with charitable endeavors. So, if you or the company you work for would like to make a pledge (all monies donated directly by you), please email me.

As with last year's challenge, you're all invited to follow my progress via Twitter at #charitypoker1000km.

I had the great pleasure of being a guest on BIG Dave Lemmon's weekly radio show, Poker Action Line. Dave asked a number of interesting and well-researched questions about the history and timeline of Cardplayer Lifestyle and many of the great interviews we've done with poker legends and heroes over the years. Plus, I talk about why I live in Israel, decided to become self-employed in poker media, and the challenge of getting those two life choices to coexist. Have a listen!

Also, I'm excited to "officially" announce that I'll be in Las Vegas next month to cover the World Poker Tour Season XVI Tournament of Champions! I'll also be around during the Bobby Baldwin Classic event and likely pop in to the Super High Roller Bowl to check out the action, too. So, if you'll be there at any point from May 21-29, you'll probably find me at the Aria Resort and Casino. Come say hi!

As always, your feedback, constructive or otherwise, is most welcome.

Thanks so much for your support and best of luck at and away from the tables!

Meet the Poker Pilgrims

It’s not unusual for people to plan poker trips to their favorite card room destinations. It IS unusual, however, to start planning for such a trip four-and-a-half years in advance!

Such is the mission of Heather and Paul Gearan, who intend to take a year-long sabbatical to play live poker while traveling across the United States. If you’re a poker fan, the story of these self-dubbed Poker Pilgrims is one you can’t help but love.

5 Reasons to Play in Non-WSOP Events Around Las Vegas This Summer

The Rio will be bustling with WSOP poker activity once again this summer, but that doesn’t mean it’s the only place to play poker in Las Vegas. In fact, almost all of the city’s poker rooms are packed to the gills during WSOP time and there are plenty of reasons to step away from the Rio and check them out.

While there’s nothing like winning a bracelet, there’s still plenty of poker to enjoy that doesn’t by necessity have to be WSOP-branded. Here, then, are our five top reasons to play non-WSOP poker events around Las Vegas during the summer.
