November 2018
Would that every month could be as exciting as this past one! It really was a November to remember. This is a PACKED newsletter, which includes a special "9th anniversary giveaway contest" (more on that below).
Upwards of 20 new articles graced our site from no fewer than 10 different contributing writers. If you missed any, we've included a sampling of some of the best ones below.

Without a doubt, the highlight of this month for me was my trip out to the inaugural Malta Poker Festival. A week filled with amazing experiences, I recap the trip in my latest post, which I'd love for you to check out (you can also click the picture below).

Thanks, once again, to the iNinja Poker Tour for sponsoring this newsletter. The tour's
first "Resurrection" event (when eliminated, players use their "resurrection" chip to immediately receive 20 BB) will take place on December 15th at Diamond Jo Casino, in Northwoods, Iowa.

Especially with the end of the year approaching, this month's article from Tour co-owner and WSOP $10K H.O.R.S.E. bracelet winner Chris "Fox" Wallace entitled The Business of Paying Taxes as a Pro Poker Player is quite a timely one.

The long-awaited release of Eli Elezra's autobiography, entitled "Pulling the Trigger," is set for January 3, 2019. I translated the book from the original Hebrew, written by Matan Krakow and Yoav Ronel, into English.

The book's publisher, Two Plus Two, has made an excerpt available so that you can get a taste of what to expect from Eli's story. Click here to read about Eli's time in the Israel Defense Forces.

More details to come about this exciting development, but for now you can pre-order your copy on Amazon.

Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we were unable to get our old page republished. So, out with the old and in with the new!

Check out our new home on Facebook, be sure to give us a Like (and turn on notifications) and tell your poker-loving friends.

Cardplayer Lifestyle debuted (to very little fanfare - a grand total of 10 visits, at least half of which were mine 😂) on November 29th, 2009. Nine years later, we're still here, more than 10 people visit the visit each day 😃, and I couldn't be more grateful.

To mark the happy occasion, I've decided to give away three prizes:

1. A 1-year PokerGO subscription
2. Swag bag 1: poker book + deck of 888poker cards + RockStar Energy hoodie
3. Swag bag 2: poker book + 2 decks of Faded Spade playing cards + breathable Cardplayer Lifestyle running jersey

To enter, all you have to is send me an email with the story of the most exciting/funny/awesome thing that ever happened to you while you were sitting at a poker table.

*Entries must be received by 7am Eastern Time on Friday December 7th. By entering, you agree to allow me to publish your story next month if you're selected as one of the three winners (can be anonymously if you prefer).

THE JUDGE: All stories will be read by my wife, Miriam, with author names redacted, and she will choose the three winners. She rarely even reads my own articles, doesn't care much about poker, and is tough to impress, so your story better be a great one (please don't forward this email to her 😃)!

Winners will be notified via email, with their names also announced in next month's newsletter. Good luck and thanks so much for your support!

"RUNNING WELL" 1,000 km charity poker challenge update!

With just over a month left to go in 2018, I've completed 900km and have raised $8,568 in pledges. So, this means one final push to hopefully reach the dual goals of 1,000km and $10,000 in pledges by the end of the year.

Special thanks go out this month to Mitchell Cogert and Nolan Dalla, for their $100 and $75 pledges, respectively, as well as a good friend of mine (who wishes to remain anonymous) for his $238 pledge.

As a reminder, this year's beneficiary, Save a Child's Heart (SACH) aims to improve the quality of pediatric cardiac care for children in developing countries. You can learn more about their amazing work in this short video.

Less than $1,500 away from my yearly goal, here's hoping the final push toward the end of 2018 finish line will yield fruit. If you or the company you work for would like to make a pledge (all monies donated directly by you), please email me.

Follow my dash to the finish line via Twitter at #charitypoker1000km.

As always, your feedback, constructive or otherwise, is most welcome.

Thanks so much once again for your support and best of luck at and away from the tables!

Meet the Hendon Mob Team

Practically everyone in the poker world has heard of the Hendon Mob and visited the website, which serves as the industry’s largest database of tournament results. There’s a hardworking team of great people that “makes the Hendon Mob happen,” producing and working with the database to ensure it best serves the millions upon millions of players and fans constantly hungry for poker stats.

At the inaugural Malta Poker Festival, I had the opportunity to meet and speak with the majority of the Hendon Mob team, including Eric Danis, Roland Boothby, Hans Kleinsman, and Wesley McKenzie, getting to learn more about them and what they do. Now’s your chance to do the same.

Women in Poker: A Senior’s Perspective

Nonagenarian George Epstein has some unique experience as far as poker is concerned. He began a unique initiative that brought over 200 senior citizens into the game for the first time. The unique nugget: there were exactly as many women as men in the group he formed!

He’s got some interesting suggestions for how to try and bring more women into the game, so it’s worth paying attention to the words of Cardplayer Lifestyle’s Senior contributor.

Interview with Malta Poker Festival Founder Ivonne Montealegre

The 2018 Malta Poker Festival was a big hit and much of that can be owed to the efforts put in by its founder Ivonne Montealegre. With two decades of experience in the poker industry, she’s had an incredible career that we explored in this interview.

We also talk about the ingredients that helped make the inaugural Malta Poker Festival such a resounding success and the hard work and effort put in by so many people behind the scenes to pull it all off.

Longtime poker fan Yishai Mendelsohn has never played poker for real money and had never witnessed a poker festival in person. In Malta for the 2018 Blockchain Summit, he decided to pay a visit to the inaugural Malta Poker Festival to finally experience firsthand fandom.

In this special guest post, we get to see things through his eyes and enjoy the ever-so-rare perspective of a brand new poker spectator.

An In-Depth Look at the Hendon Mob Poker Popularity Rankings

If you’re familiar with the poker world at all, it’s easy to get a sense of who the most popular players are at any given time. For hard stats to back up player popularity, however, you’ve got to look to the Hendon Mob.

As poker fans the world over love looking up the stats of their favorite players, it’s easy to determine which poker pros are currently the most popular and which have enjoyed longstanding popularity for years. Here’s an in-depth look at the Hendon Mob’s poker player popularity charts, by contributing writer Geoff Fisk.

Interview with Israel Poker Academy Co-Founder Stas Tishkevich

After Israelis notched a slew of impressive performances at the 2018 WSOP Europe, the eyes of the poker world turned to the Holy Land, wondering what the secret is behind the success of Israeli poker players.

A major component in the overall skill increase in Israeli poker players can be attributed to the existence of the Israel Poker Academy (IPA). In this interview, we speak with the institution's co-founder Stas Tishkevich. Stas fills us in on the details of how the IPA was founded and has developed into a one-of-a-kind poker school over the last five years.
