Appraiser Training for new DI Appraisers

You are receiving this e-mail because you have volunteered to be an Appraiser for the Georgia Destination Imagination (DI) tournaments this spring.  First, we thank you for committing your time to learn about the Appraiser role and then execute it at our tournament days.  We know that people are very busy this time of year and are excited that you chose to spend some of your time with us and the DI kids.

Second, I'd like to quickly introduce myself.  My name is Dave Lohrmann, and I am the Affiliate Director for Georgia DI.  Again, I am thrilled you have decided to join us for the DI season this spring.  If you have any questions at all, feel free to reach out and we will be sure to answer. One thing that comes up every year and thus needs to be addressed up front: the SAME PERSON must be trained and then appraise at one of the Regional Showcases and at the State Tournament. Splitting the commitment between 2 or more people is not possible, as it makes consistent scoring for our teams impossible.

Now, as a new Appraiser for Georgia DI, we require you to attend one of the following general Appraiser training sessions (if you've appraised for DI previously, you do not need to attend these sessions).  Each of the four sessions is identical and covers the same material; all are offered online.  You just pick whichever session is convenient for you, then join by computer and phone so that you can follow along with the presentation.  All meeting information can be found in the Eventbrite online ticket by selecting one of the dates below:

Next, in addition to the New Appraiser training, you will be contacted directly by your assigned Challenge Master.  This individual will be in touch via e-mail to schedule Challenge-specific training sessions and also will help prepare you for your duties as an Appraiser for your Challenge.

Along with the online training, you are required to attend one of the following Regional Showcases.  These events serve as a dress rehearsal for the kids and their performances, and practice sessions for the Challenge Masters and Appraisal teams.
  • Central Regional Showcase - Saturday, February 24th, at Lakeview Primary School, Milledgeville GA
  • Atlanta Regional Showcase - Saturday, March 3rd, at Fulton Science Academy

Finally, the "big" event for our kids and our Appraisers is the Affiliate Tournament.  All Appraisers are required to attend this event, which is held Saturday, March 24th, at Lanier High School.  Your Challenge Master will be in touch with you regarding the Regional Showcases as well as the Affiliate Tournament.

I know this message contains a lot of information, so if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me  (ad@gadi.org).

Thank you again!
