Strong Schools Reflect a Strong Community!
Southport Elementary Wins TAP Founders Award 
Southport Elementary was honored to receive the TAP Founder’s Award at the TAP National Conference in New Orleans recently. This award is given to the top TAP school in the country.

The honor is based on distinction in the following areas: proficient implementation of TAP’s four elements, student academic growth according to state or federal measures, and notable recognition as a center and resource of best practices.

Principal Dr. Danny Mendez stated, “This has been an incredible journey. I am extremely proud of our staff, our students, and the entire Southport Elementary community.” All of us here at Perry Township Schools are proud of this achievement.

Hardesty to Replace Happersberger
Ms. Darlene Hardesty will be reporting to the principals office at William Henry Burkhart Elementary in the fall where she's been assistant principal since 2012. She will be replacing principal John Happersberger, who's retiring. Ms. Hardesty came to Burkhart in 2005 as a fifth grade teacher. Congratulations Ms. Hardesty and best wishes to Principal Happersberger.

Indiana First Lady Visits Rosa Parks 

Indiana First Lady, Karen Pence, visited Rosa Parks Elementary in April. It was part of a culminating activity for “Pennies for Patients”, an effort to raise money for the Leukemia Society during the week of April 11th-15th. It was also Global Youth Day. Students wrote letters to patients going through Leukemia treatment. Mrs. Pence, a former teacher, helped a 3rd and 4th grade class make a state bird, a Cardinal, to go along with their cards to patients.

Jonathan Romine Named New Principal at PMMS

The Perry Township School Board and Dr. Little have named Jonathan Romine as Principal at Perry Meridian Middle School. The announcement came during the April school boaard meeting. Mr. Romine is replacing Principal David Rohl who's moving to Glenns Valley to take over the vacant principals position there. Mr. Romine, pictured with his family, comes to the district from Fall Creek Valley Middle School in Lawrence Township where he served as assistant principal. He has been an educator for 17 years starting out as a classroom teacher.

Perry Meridian Student Gets Perfect ACT Score 

Henry Dawson, a Perry Meridian Senior, has pulled off what is almost the impossible; a PERFECT 36 on the ACT exam. He was recognized by the school board, in April, for achieving perfection on the challenging test. His parents were on hand as Dr. Little honored him in front of the Board of Education. Congratulations Henry for this amazing achievement!!!

Perry Meridian Math Leaders Announced
The students with the highest cumulative scores for the 2015-16 Perry Meridian High School Math League Contests are;

3rd Place: Kris Butler and Tasha Whitsitt
2nd Place: Lily Weber
1st Place: Cullan Bedwell 

The Indiana Math League was formed in 1977, and contests are made up of 6 tests with 6 questions each. The questions vary in difficulty from simple to challenging. 
Congratulations to Kris, Tasha, Lily and Cullan and to all of the students who participated.

Perry Township Education Foundation fundraiser is a Slam Dunk Success
The Harlem Wizards, a group of basketball entertainers put on quite a show for a crowd of several hundred. Clapping, cheering, and a lot of laughter filled the Southport Fieldhouse as the Wizards performed their tricks, hoops and alley oops. Perry Township Schools appreciates those who came out to support the Perry Township Education Foundation, teachers and students.
The Wizards played the "Brave Birds", a group of teachers and administrators. The teachers and administrators were "brave" and good sports playing along with the amazing dunking and dribbling of the Wizards.

Everyone was a winner for coming together to assist with the education of Perry Township students. The school district would like to thank all of the sponsors for a great fundraiser, We would also like to thank the dozens of volunteers who made this evening fun, entertaining and successful.
Pre-School Easter Egg Hunt
On the Friday before spring break preschool students at the Perry Township Education Center went on an Easter Egg hunt. Dr. Little helped the little ones find their colorful eggs with treats inside. The youngsters even stopped by the superintendents office to see if any eggs might be hidden there.
Southport National Honor Society Ceremony Held
Southport High School inducted 59 new students, 5 seniors and 54 juniors, into the National Honor Society on Sunday afternoon, April 10th. Following the ceremony, NHS members, their families and SHS staff members were invited to a reception in the cafeteria. The National Honor Society is an organization that recognizes outstanding high school students. scholarship, leadership, service, and character are the cornerstones of NHS students.


Southport Lady Cards Duo Named to Top-65

Emma DeHart and Jaelencia Williams were named to the Top-65 in the state for girls' basketball. Both are juniors at Southport High School. Congratulations ladies!
