Three-Tiered Bus Schedule Approved
We appreciate the feedback received from staff and the community as we evaluated the best solution to accommodate our transportation constraints and our increasing enrollment.

The Perry Township Schools Board of Education voted to transition from its current two-tiered bus system to a three-tiered system at the start of the 2017-18 school year.

Student Growth and Achievement
Accountability Grades
Indiana Department of Education recently released school accountability grades. Perry Township Schools earned a B overall. Four of our schools earned an A: Homecroft, Rosa Parks, Sourthport, and William Henry Burkhart elementary schools.

Our principals, teachers and testing coordinator have created a presentation which explains how schools were assigned grades, how schools approach professional development to support student success, and how teachers utilize data to make instructional decisions.
Lilly Endowment Grant
Perry Township Schools has received a planning grant of $50,000 under Lilly Endowment Inc.’s Comprehensive Counseling Initiative for Indiana K-12 Students.

The aim of the Counseling Initiative is to increase significantly the number of K-12 students in Indiana public school corporations and charter schools who are emotionally healthy and academically successful. Click here for details.
Perry Meridian Val & Sal
Perry Meridian has announced its valedictorian and salutatorian. Congrats to valedictorian Erika Shellenberger and salutatorian Patrick Carper! Erika, who has earned a 4.6384 GPA, plans to attend Transylvania University to pursue civil engineering. Patrick, who earned a 4.5987 GPA, awaits a final admittance decision from the United States Military Academy at West Point, and is also considering Wabash College. Best of luck to you both!
Spelling Bee Champ
Congrats to Vanlian Nier! The fifth grader is William Henry Burkhart’s 2017 Spelling Bee Champion. He will compete in the Marion County South District Spelling Bee on February 21. Let's cheer him on!
Honoring Rising Stars
The Indiana Association of School Principals (IASP) presented the 2017 Rising Stars of Indiana, 11th graders, recognized for their academic achievement.

Eight Perry Township students were among those recognized: Savannah Dishman; Raul Moreno; David Seals; and Paige Soughan, Perry Meridian High School and Kelsey Andreis; Josephine Bucker; Garett Krueger; and Kaylie Turner, Southport High.
Teacher Spotlight
Let's get to know each other a little better, shall we? We invite all teachers to submit their profile for our new Teacher Spotlight, which will be published monthly via social media and the district website. It's just a fun way for our community to get to know the teachers who care for their children. It is also a neat way to learn about our teammates. Participation is voluntary.

Teddy Bear Toss
Thanks to all the Cards and Falcons fans who supported the Teddy Bear Toss. This year, 219 stuffed animals were collected and delivered by Southport cheerleaders to a women’s shelter and fire station.

First responders often give toys to children who are involved in emergencies as a source of comfort.

This was the second year for the event, which was expanded to include Perry Meridian.
Police Foundation Grant
Thanks to the Indianapolis Police Foundation for awarding our district with a grant that allows us to invest in the “Be Safe: How to Interact Safely with the Police” initiative.

To supplement the program, officers from Homecroft, Southport and Perry police departments recently visited Southport High to give a presentation to students on the importance of communication and cooperation. We appreciate our law enforcement.
Southport Val & Sal
Southport High has announced its valedictorian and salutatorian. We are proud of valedictorian Erin Sullivan and salutatorian Xingyu Cheng! Erin, who earned a 4.656 GPA, is considering attending the University of Notre Dame to major in biology. Xingyu earned a 4.635 GPA and is possibly majoring in mathematics at Purdue University. We're confident they will be successful regardless of where they decide to attend! Good luck to you both!
Spreading Love
Students at Abraham Lincoln Elementary School are showing love to our service men and women! They participated in the “Valentines for Vets” program, sponsored by Congressman Andre Carson. The children sent about 350 valentines to be given to veterans who have served our country.
Free Meals
Did you know both Perry Meridian High and Southport High offer FREE after-school meals to their students? Meals are available to all students who have access to their own transportation and remain at school after classes dismiss – even those who aren’t participating in extracurricular activities or athletics. The only requirement is that students must eat the dinner on their school's property. Click here for the schedule.
