Strong Schools Reflect a Strong Community!
In Perry Township Schools, there is a strong legacy within our community.  Our newsletters will feature a staff member or student who exemplifies the strong family ties within our school community.

Dr. Tom Little, Superintendent
Meet_Mr. Jody Matthews
Mr. Jody Matthews is the proud Principal of Homecroft Elementary School. He has served the district as a teacher and administrator for over 15 years.
As a student, he attended Clinton Young Elementary School, Keystone Middle School and Southport High School. After graduating from high school (SHS Class of ’91), Mr. Matthews attended Anderson University and graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communications/Broadcasting.  For 5 years, he worked at WFMS doing traffic reports and news casts on air, serving as the Public Affairs Coordinator.  While there, he earned his Elementary Education degree from IUPUI.  At that time, Mr Matthews began his career with Perry Township Schools as a 2nd grade teacher at Clinton Young Elementary.  In 2007, he earned his Masters in Administration from Indiana University.
Mr. Matthews is married to Katie (Cloud).  They have two children, Hannah and Dut Mabok.  Hannah is a 4th grade student at Homecroft Elementary.  Dut Mabok is a sophomore at Southport High School.  Their family has a dog named Buckeye.
“A principal doesn’t have a typical day.  Each day is unique, filled with staff meetings, classroom visits, township level meetings, lunches with community members, observations, walkthroughs and as many conversations with our students as possible.
My favorite part of the day is anytime I am with students.  I look forward to greeting them as they exit the buses each and every morning.  I especially enjoy when students visit my office to share their successes with me.  There is never too much time spent with students, teachers and families.
Outside of school, I love to golf and play softball.  I am also a very active member of Southview Wesleyan Church where my dad has pastored for over 30 years.  My personal faith is very important to me and hopefully I live my faith out in everything I do.  I am an admittedly passionate sports fan of the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeyes, hence our dog’s name being Buckeye.
A little known fact about me is that when I was obtaining Bernie Kosar’s autograph on a football  (that I played catch with in Cleveland Municipal Stadium), I told Dan Marino that I did NOT want him to sign my football because he never played for the Browns and it would ruin my football!” Jody Matthews
Welcome Roscoe!

Burkhart fifth grade student, Emmanuel Dennis, is Burkhart’s 2015 Spelling Bee Champion! He spelled the word “accomplishment” correctly to win Burkhart’s 53rd annual event. Twenty-two students from grades 3-5 participated in this exciting competition. Emmanuel will represent Burkhart Elementary at the Marion County South District Spelling Bee in mid-February. Congratulations, Emmanuel!
The District is Growing!
Families continue to choose Perry Township School as the place to build homes and send their children to school.
Students at Southport Elementary and Abraham Lincoln Elementary are busy thinking of others. The schools collected shoes as a way to help fundraise for an organization called WaterStep. WaterStep helps provide clean water to some of the poorest places around the world. The shoes collected will be cleaned and sold. The money from those sales will be used to create a machine that cleans and purifies water to make it safe to drink.  Donations could help save hundreds of thousands of people around the world.
