The PMHS Falcon Cheerleaders kicked off their season by participating in a spirit competition on the sidelines of the Mini-marathon. Cheer squads from around the state came prepared to cheer on the 13.1 mile race participants with creative ideas and enthusiasm. With the unique theme of the TV show WIPEOUT!, PMHS cheer brought home the grand prize in the competition -- $1,000! Way to go, Falcons! The squad's coaches are Lauren Lenox and Dede Sims.

8th Grade ROAD Showcase a Success

Congratulations to all of the Perry Meridian Middle School students who participated in the ROAD (Research, Observe, Analyze, Discover) community event. The 8th grade showcase had a phenomenal attendance of families, students, and community members. At this event, the 8th grade students shared their year-long progress and project with the community. It was the culmination of a year-long project developing lifelong research skills through the collaboration of the school librarian and 8th grade language arts teachers. A special thank you to the Indiana State Library, the Indianapolis Public Library, the PMMS/PMA PTA, and all the families for their involvement and participation.
GV Art Club Paints Murals for School
The Glenns Valley Elementary School Art Club has had a busy year. They worked hard on creating two new murals at the school. Their creativity brought fun and color to the nurse’s office and the baseball field.
Each month, Southport 6th Grade Academy students and staff support a deserving charity through funds raised by wearing jeans. In May, SA chose to help Darin Ping, an adult with Down’s Syndrome, purchase a much needed hearing aide. SA students and staff, along with a gracious donation from the Brian Freeman Memorial Foundation, raised all the necessary money needed to replace Darin’s current device. The school presented Darin with a ceremonial check in the amount of $900. Thank you to all of the students and staff for their gracious contribution and huge hearts.
PTEF Grant in Action
Author of over 130 children’s books, Marcia Thornton Jones, visited Glenns Valley Elementary School. She met with students and shared a variety of ways she has developed ideas and characters for stories. Her presentation also focused on “What If”, journaling and illustrating. This program was made possible due to a PTEF Grant and GV PTA support.
Author Visits SHS
Author, Francesca Zappia, visited the Southport High School IMC to talk about her debut novel, "Made You Up", that features a teen with paranoid schizophrenia. Students discussed with Zappia about mental health, being a teen, creative writing, and, of course, books.
