St. Mary's Episcopal Church

May 31, 2019

"We ought not just race past the Ascension on our way to Pentecost. Like the disciples, we need to stand, 'looking up' in prayer and thought, thinking about what our own image of ascension is. As we rose with Jesus in the Resurrection, we should ascend with him today—changed, excited, energized to continue building God's world here."
—Susanna Metz.

Moab Spring Retreat May 3-5
Our youth enjoyed a beautiful trip down to Moab for our spring retreat this year!  We enjoyed a fun filled weekend as some of our youth made some new friendships and were introduced to river rafting and visiting Moab for the first time.  It was so rewarding to see the awe and wonder of God's beauty in our youth's eyes! We enjoyed rafting down the Colorado river and a sunset hike to Double Arch in Arches National Park.  Thank you to Reverend David Sakrison and to St. Francis Church for inviting us to stay for the weekend! There are a couple fun photos that are attached.

"Go Monday" - break for the summer!
We enjoyed our last Go Monday for the season at St. Mark's Church with Father Tyler and will reconvene in the fall.  I would like to make a special shout out for our seniors who will be graduating this year.  They have contributed so much over the years with their insight and their involvement with our youth events, spiritual retreats, and fun adventures!  I am continually impressed with them and know that they have so much knowledge and insight to make a difference! I am grateful that we have so many of our high school youth and graduates that will be counselors at Camp Tuttle this summer.  It has been so rewarding to be a part of these young peoples' lives and watch them grow into great leaders and good citizens.  This will be my 15th summer working with the youth, counselors and priests at Camp Tuttle and it has been the most fulfilling thing I have ever been apart of.  I hope you all have a great summer and hope to see you at Camp! “Christ has no body now but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks compassion on this world. Yours are the feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours.” ~ St. Teresa of Ávila

Guidance Prayer for New Ministry
Almighty God, giver of every good gift:
Look graciously on your Church,
and so guide the minds of those
who shall choose a rector for this parish,
that we may receive a faithful pastor,
who will care for your people
and equip us for our ministries;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

At St. Mary’s, one of our core values is that “We care about the communities in which we live, and we seek, as individuals and as a congregation, to reach out to others carrying with us the good news of Jesus’ love for us.”
One of our outreach opportunities for service to the community is our relationship with the Food & Care Coalition, where we help feed the hungry among us. We’ve been involved in it for 30+ years, starting in our own Parish Hall kitchen.
Come and volunteer providing lunch to the clients of the Food & Care Coalition.
We can use help in serving food, greeting clients, handing out sack lunches, washing dishes, cleaning up, and engaging in friendly conversation with the clients. (Children under sixteen are welcome to greet guests with an accompanying adult.)
Contact Steve Nordstrom, Erik Heiney, or Stan King through the church office to sign up to help or for more information.
