INFORMATION: NEW - TABS Procurement Guide 2015
Please take a look at/download a guidance note produced by TABS for local authority officers aimed at providing relevant background information to help compile tender documents to commission Bikeability training. The DfT has said they will be informing local authority officers /SGOHs that receive grants to deliver cycle training in 2016/17 about this guidance. If you have any comments & suggestions please contribute to the ongoing discussion on TABS forum

ACTION: Calling all registered Bikeability scheme organisers!
The 2015 Bikeability scheme survey is now live.  This is an opportunity for scheme organisers of Bikeability registered schemes in England to highlight ways in which Bikeability works well, or could be made better. This year the chosen focus is increasing participation in Bikeability.  Please do participate by Friday 6th November – all scheme organisers who complete the survey can enter themselves into a prize draw to win an exciting prize for them and their Bikeability delivery team.  Scheme organisers have already been sent a link to the survey - if you are a scheme organiser and have not received a link, then please get in touch with the Bikeability Support Team at contactus@bikeability.org.uk

It has been endorsed by the DfT, showing some cross-departmental collaboration. One of the 8 key principles for practice includes encouraging active travel. NEWS: TABS Meetings
On 22nd October TABS attended an All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group (APPCG) meeting to discuss cycling priorities. The issue of funding and long-term security for Bikeability & Bikeabiilty+ was raised. TABS has requested a follow-up meeting to discuss Bikeability in more detail, and offered to run a practical session.
TABS will be attending Modeshift's national conference on 5th November (courtesy of a free place from British Cycling - thanks!).

Recent research - Millennium Cohort Study (July 2015)
This study looked at what schools offer Bikeability, what types of children participated and evaluated what the impacts were - link here to the full report. To note, of interest:
The Bikeability programme has increased participation and reduced inequality of access to cycle training and thus strengthens the argument for a centrally-funded and co-ordinated scheme. This potentially strengthens the case for Bikeability Plus and targeting younger children as well – the researchers suggest helping children to acquire the prerequisite motor skills at an early age would help less-sporty children to participate.
