Progress with CPD for Bikeability Plus

On 27th April TABS met with the Bikeability Plus pilots to have an initial discussion around what are the target groups, main outcomes, observed demonstrations  and instructor CPD requirements for each of the modules. This is a commissioned piece of work from the DfT. We are currently working up the findings from the workshop into an report with a view to developing some CPD for Bikeability Plus, and sharing this with members in due course. TABS hopes to provide some regional workshop days to cascade good practice for Bikeability Plus later this year.

TO NOTE Isobel will be away during June so next month's newsletter will be early, with an update on the National Conference on 20th May. The following newsletter will be issued in early July. Whilst she is away please email:

Welcome to our new members that joined TABS last month. We look forward to working with you.

NEWS: Cycling UK  & National Bike Week
Britain’s oldest transport organisation, CTC, the national cycling charity, last month rebranded as Cycling UKCheck out their new, refreshed website, and also their  Cycle Training pages here.

National Bike Week, organised by Cycling UK, runs from 11 – 19th June this year – a good opportunity to promote any cycle training / led rides /courses etc. for families and kids in your local area!

TABS was invited to comment on the guidance and application form for Bikeability funding from Sept 2016 to March 2020. This has now been issued to local authorities - download the guidance here, along with some background information about the guidance, how to bid, deadlines etc.  - link to further information here.

Staffordshire County Council has produced a useful infographic about their cycle training  - this has been sent to all Staffordshire schools, as a reminder of the training, and they hope to get some press coverage soon too. Seems like a good way to spread the word, both to schools and the public!

Cycle Training UK has produced a short video about how a Bike Bus project (the B49 – good name eh?!) at Fielding Primary School, Ealing is working, including interviews with children and staff. It includes the use of an app to help co-ordinate where & when to collect ‘passengers’.

Cycle Training UK has also produced a leaflet offering free cycle training to MP's, civil servants and parliamentary employees  - copy of the flier here. This is being circulated by the All Party Parliamentary Cycling Group and via the DfT - hopefully it will result in more MP's signing up and getting an understanding of what Bikeability can achieve!
