November case study: Level 3 training / 'Bikeability Star' scheme
Dorset County Council is now offering Level 3 training, after successful pilot schemes. They are also running a scheme to reward Bikeability pupils. Find out more here.

Best-practice guidance
The ITO working group, coordinated by TABS has set up 2 'Task and Finish' Groups to look at the issues of:
  • Instructors Professional Development (including specific module re. Driver Training)
  • Procurement Guidance
Discussion papers will be presented at the December meeting, and then circulated to TABS members for feedback, before being presented to the Bikeability Support Team as industry guidance.

Research

MA research on Bikeability - Nicola Hamilton (University of Central Lancashire) is embarking on an MA - read her research proposal here.  This emerged from a journal article on a qualitative study of Bikeability. She is currently looking for funding, support, contacts and feedback: nic.govelo@gmail.com

Training / Advice

Take a look at the Driving Instructor video just launched, and going viral on U-tube. Over 13,000 views already.....

The Bikeability Support Team has 2,471 instructors so far on their new database. An email has just been issued reminding all instructors to register with the new database. Instructors should email: contactus@bikeability.org.uk Please pass this message on to instructors as appropriate.

TABS has offered to advise on the government's Cycling Delivery Plan, which is open for informal consultation, ending on 13th November.

Meetings
TABS met with the Bikeability Support Team on 5th November to discuss a range of operational issues, including Bikeability newsletter content, CPD courses, Post Course Assessment Forms, and training opportunities.

Cycling Scotland Conference 2014: 13-14th November TABS director, Michael Frearson will be speaking at this conference about his research.
National Road Safety Conference: 26-27th November
Road Safety Week: 17-23rd November
TABS Board & ITO meeting: 11th December, hosted by Cycle Training UK.
