Each year in September we set aside a week near the beginning of the new school year to pray for our congregations at GBC and for our community.  On each day of this week we will pray for different areas of life within Godmanchester Baptist Church.  I encourage you to find some time each day to pray - using the short overview and pointers for prayer in the daily e-mail.

Sunday - World Mission

Today is our mission Sunday, here are prayer pointers linked to some of the missions that we support as a church.

Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”     Matthew 28:18-20

Rehoboth Children's Homes and Kathryn Thompson
1. Pray for Kathryn settling back into life at Rehoboth. She says ‘it’s good to be back but quite a change to the last few years so please pray for me to be able to settle in, adjusting to climate, culture and way of life here.’
2. Kathryn says that as lots has changed in the last few years she asks us to pray for wisdom to know what to continue, what to change etc as there’s pressure to just take up what she was doing before but she wants to fit in with what they have been doing in the last few years too.

3. Kathryn needs to renew her visa after 2-3 weeks so pray for this so she can then move her flight to December.
4. Ezekiel, one of the long term residents and now agricultural graduate, is off to Israel next week for a one year job placement on a farm there. Pray for him in his new placement. Kathryn says she will miss him for as well as being a resident he’s been a good friend and companion at Rehoboth. She will miss his company and practical help!!
5. In the UK team there is a need for a Treasurer. Please pray that God will provide the right person for this role.
6. Give thanks for the gift of money to enable completion of the Eco Workshop at Rehoboth. Pray that the building work will go smoothly and be completed quickly.

Anglo-Indian Concern
1.  As schools and colleges are now functioning  normally, pray that students can get used to studying in class and manage to catch up with the learning they have missed through covid.
2.  Pray that wage earners who lost their jobs are able to get them back or find new ones to support their families.
3.  Thank the Lord that 90% of the senior citizens got vaccinated. They are now able to come to the VCT office for their pensions and are enjoying Christian fellowship and friendship there again.
4.  Thank God that donations to AIC have kept up during Covid from individuals, churches and from Calcutta Tiljallah Relief a charity which sponsors most of the seniors.
5.  Pray for Grace, John and Virginia who have faithfully continued the work during the past difficult 2 1/2 years.
6.  Pray for the AIC service being recorded and put together at the moment.
PEOPLE OF THE WAY FELLOWSHIP:
7.  The main morning service moved on 11th August from Periyanagar to join the congregation already meeting in the new building in Erincuncherri.  Pray as the 2 congregations worship together and seek the Lord as they plan the future for services and meetings for the different age and language (English and Tamil) groups. David will need wisdom and physical stamina as he leads.
8.  Continue to pray for God to provide the funds for the final work (especially the plumbing) to be completed at Erincuncherri.

Sarah - Central Asia
Pray for:
1.  Sarah as she travels round the UK for the next 6 weeks speaking about the work- for good connections, the right words to say and for people to be inspired to pray.
2.  The start of two relief projects- that everything will go smoothly.
3.  Sarah to be able to maintain good communication with staff while she is away.
4.  Some issues with signing agreements with the government for the team’s projects, that they will be shown favour.

Mission Direct
1. Praise that Simone Olagoke is finding her way back to work after 6 months of intensive cancer treatment, arriving just as things became very busy with teams travelling again. We are so thankful to God for her return. Pray for increasing levels of energy and stamina especially as she is currently recovering from covid.
2. Praise God that MD are able to send volunteers again this year to the following projects:
  • Rukungiri, Uganda, where the main project is constructing a kitchen block at Rushararazi Primary School.
  • Kumi, Uganda, where volunteers are building the teachers accommodation at Kumi Primary School.
  • DR (Dominican Republic), building family houses for the destitute.
  • Narok, Kenya, building a home for girls rescued from FGM and forced marriage
3. Pray for strong staff teams as they prepare and run each trip
4.
Pray for travel between countries to be free from disruption and delay
5. Pray for key Partners and partnerships in-country to work in full cooperation, collaboration, and in Love in order to bring the best possible program for the teams and those being supported.
6. Pray for Project funds to be raised to cover all the building costs.
7. Please continue to pray for Chris Knight, an MD Trustee, who was seriously injured in a cycling accident last month. He and his family still very much need prayers for complete healing and for comfort.
8. Please pray for Jude Lechmere and her team, including Jono, James Ambler, Colin Reeves and Tim Martindale, as they prepare for a trip to Zimbabwe in February 2023.
