OBRC to Conduct Preliminary Review of 2023 Municipal Budget Estimates

A City Council Operating Budget Review Committee (OBRC) will go through administration’s preliminary 2023 budget estimates starting January 23, 2023.

The committee review is scheduled for Monday, January 23, through Thursday, January 26, 2023, from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Members of the Corporate Leadership Team will be in attendance, and departmental and financial staff will come and go based on a pre-set departmental schedule. Materials, including preliminary budget estimates and supporting department-based budget documents, that will inform the OBRC’s work and feed into the April 2023 municipal budget process can be found online.

Members of the public are invited to provide written comments and questions for the OBRC’s review by contacting via email. The deadline for written submissions is January 23, 2023. In-person delegations will be welcome during full budget deliberations in April.

If you have a real Christmas tree, the City of Windsor wants to help you dispose of it responsibly when collections begins January 17.

Bridge Blockade Compensation

Federal Minister of Public Safety Marco Mendicino has announced $6.9 million to cover Windsor’s costs of dealing with the Ambassador Bridge blockade last winter.

Vacant Home Tax Program Survey

In 2021, City Council approved the development and implementation of a vacant home tax program in an effort to encourage owners of vacant residential dwellings to either sell or rent out these properties to increase the availability of housing in Windsor. The tax is not intended to apply to principal residences that are owned and occupied.

Local Early Childhood Educators: We are ECEs!

WERECE is a workforce strategy for child care and early years, to bring awareness of the important role that Registered Early Childhood Educators play in the life of a child and our community.

Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas

Travelling from the American Museum of Natural History, Dinosaur Discoveries: Ancient Fossils, New Ideas is a family-friendly exhibition that explores the evolution of current theories about dinosaurs, and reveals a vivid picture of what living, breathing dinosaurs were really like. It highlights current research by scientists from the American Museum of Natural History and other leading paleontologists around the world.

The first Throwback Thursday for 2023 was taken in 1925 and is part of the archive collection of photographs taken from Hiram Walker and Sons offices and plant during the 1920s. This image is of the mail room located in the head office on Riverside Drive East. On the counter to the left are two presses. One is a bound ledger in the press, this is how typed pages where transferred to bound ledgers. 

Stay Connected to Windsor City Council

Roughly 20 people meeting in Windsor Council Chambers.The City of Windsor offers live streaming video during all City Council and standing committee meetings, as well as recordings of past meetings available upon their completion.

Agendas for each council meeting can be found on the Friday before each session. A record of the decisions and discussions from every meeting are found in council minutes, which appear online typically within a few weeks of each meeting.
