Windsor Update

Many things are happening in Your City.........be sure to
subscribe at the upper left of your screen to stay in touch!
Photo of Mayor DilkensWelcome to the Windsor Update.
This e-newsletter is provided by the Corporation of the City of Windsor.  Our hope is to share a selection of stories that Windsorites either need to know, should know, or might just like to know about in our community.

In each issue, we’ll update you about events and schedules, meetings and announcements, and more. We’ll profile plans we’re working on and offer a variety of opportunities to share your own feedback.

The Windsor Update joins our website www.citywindsor.ca, our municipal Facebook page www.facebook.com/CityofWindsor, our twitter account twitter.com/citywindsoron, and our YouTube Channel www.youtube.com/cityofwindsor as some of the ways we’re engaging with you and communicating the great things happening in our city. We encourage you to create your own direct connection by signing up, “friending,” “following” and “liking” each of these opportunities for engagement.

The Windsor Update will be a monthly publication to start, but with room to grow.

Thanks for your interest in our community, and please feel free to let us know what you think of our newsletter!

20 Year Strategic Vision
and
Selfie with the Mayor at Devonshire Mall

Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens and members of City Council will be at the Devonshire Mall this Saturday, November 7, 2015 to talk about the 20-Year Strategic Vision.
The Mayor will be there from 11am to 12 noon, ready to talk about the future and to snap a few selfies with visitors, while Councillors will come and go throughout the day between 10am and 3pm.
“This will be our eleventh public engagement opportunity following the conclusion of our Vision and Ward meetings this week,” said Mayor Dilkens. “We’re hoping that by being at the mall, we’ll be able to reach more people in a new and fun way.”
Administrative staff will have display boards, pamphlets of information, as well as a short survey to complete. The surveys and feedback will be compiled and used to plan Windsor’s future through 2035.
The display location is near the food court and anyone who stops by and fills out a survey will have a chance to win four Rec Express Cards, good for Adventure Bay or any other city recreation facility.
Visit the City of Windsor website for more information on the Strategic Vision and to take the on-line survey.

Windsor-Detroit Tunnel Celebrates 85 Years of International Service

Mayor Drew Dilkens and the Windsor Detroit Tunnel Corporation are marking a milestone for the Windsor-Detroit Tunnel. Opened to the international community on November 3, 1930, the tunnel is celebrating its 85th birthday this year.

“Taking the tunnel rarely fails to inspire a sense of awe in its first-time travellers,” said Mayor Drew Dilkens. “For those of us who grew up in the area, we can likely remember bombarding our parents with questions about how they got it under the water and how it works, while our parents drove us through for adventure across the border.”

Recent upgrades to the tunnel’s operations spearheaded by the Windsor Detroit Tunnel Corporation included a $35-million expansion of the Canadian tunnel plaza, completed in 2014; LED lighting upgrades in 2010; and an upgrade and renovation project for the Canadian ventilation tower on University Avenue West, completed in 2007.
