Regional Planning Governing Board Meeting @ 2:00pm Location: TBD
The Regional Planning Commission received a presentation on the Truckee Meadows Services Area or TMSA, from Robert Liberty, Director of the Urban Sustainability Accelerator at Portland State University (PSU).  This report was part of the work that TMRPA has undertaken with its partners and PSU in looking at two of the main policies in the 2012 Regional Plan, in preparation for the 2017 Regional Plan Update.  The RPC also heard from TMRPA staff on Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) corridors, the second policy being reviewed in conjunction with PSU.  As part of this effort, TMRPA hosted a public workshop on TODs in June, which featured GB Arrington, a renowned expert in TODs. The RPC accepted the work completed so far, and directed TMRPA staff to develop a report for the Regional Planning Governing Board.
2035 Regional Transportation Plan: The Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) defines the long-range planning policies and priorities for the community's future transportation system.  It is the region's blueprint to maintaining access, mobility and clean air for our community.  The RTP is a key tool for preserving our quality-of-life including short, safe commutes, a vibrant economy, and clear blue skies.  Under federal regulations, the RTP must be updated every four years to maintain eligibility for federal funding.  To learn more about the RTP, visit
October is National Community Planning Month
This month, we’re joining with planners from across the country to celebrate who planners are and the lasting value thoughtful planning has on communities of all sizes. We invite you to get to know the planners in your community; learn about the local planning initiatives underway; and maybe even attend your first planning commission meeting.  Visit for upcoming meetings.
2017 Truckee Meadows Regional Plan Update: The Truckee Meadows Regional Plan (Regional Plan) provides a blueprint for development in Washoe County over the next 20 years.  The Regional Plan directs where growth will occur, identifies development constrained areas that are not suitable for future development, sets priorities for infrastructure development, and addresses natural resource management.

The regional plan is updated every five years.  TMRPA is currently working on the 2017 Regional Plan Update, scheduled for approval in December 2017.  If you have ideas any input in how our community grows, visit our Facebook page at, drop us a line at, or attend one of our meetings.
