Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Division, Oahu District - Storm Water Management Program

2015 HDOT Highways SWMP Plan Finalized

The 2015 State of Hawaii Department of Transportation, Highways Division, Oahu District’s (HDOT Highways) Storm Water Management Program (SWMP) Plan has officially been finalized! The SWMP Plan is a requirement of the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System Permit and details the steps HDOT Highways will take to mitigate the discharge of harmful pollutants such as chemicals, debris and sediments into streams, rivers and the ocean.

The final version of the SWMP Plan was released on April 27, 2015. Thanks to all for their feedback and participation!

Crews install soil erosion-preventing materials along Kawainui Watershed

Crews have been hard at work on a major project on the Windward side of Oahu for the past two months, helping shore up areas prone to sediment erosion. 

Beginning in mid-February, crews began installing a mixture of hydromulch to promote revegetation on the slopes and erosion control netting to prevent soil from being caught in storm water runoff.

HDOT Highways kicks off multi-year trash study at Halawa Interchange

HDOT Highways is kicking off a multi-year study that should give our engineers and scientists more information about the man-made trash and debris found along our highways.

By better understanding the composition of this trash, we will be able to devise a more strategic approach to reduce this trash load in the future.

Congratulations to Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy, which has been selected as the Department of Transportation, Highways Division, Oahu District’s First Quarter 2015 Adopt-A-Highway Champions!

Hawaii National Guard Youth Challenge Academy’s route for the Adopt-A-Highway program is on Roosevelt Avenue in Ewa, from Fort Barrett Road to Geiger Road.
