How can you slow down water and prevent erosion or scour in a channel or ditch on your project? Implementing effective best management practices (BMPs) to reduce the velocity of water in channels and ditches should be considered during construction activities.
A check dam is a temporary device placed across channels and ditches to reduce scour and erosion by reducing flow velocity and promoting sedimentation.
As part of the Action Plan to Address Erosional Outfalls, DOT-HWYS is permanently repairing outfall structures which have degraded over time to stabilize soil erosion and improve water quality.

The conference will be hosted by DOT Highways, Oahu District in collaboration with the Airports and Harbors Divisions. It’s a tie! Congratulations to the Hauula and Wahiawa Crews for winning the Annual Maintenance Baseyard Storm Water Training Quiz Competition!
This year’s competition proved to be more competitive than most as both crews scored the maximum possible 20 out of 20 points on the post-training quiz.
