Junior Academy of Science State & Regional Competition Winners for 2023

Throughout the spring, students from around the state participated in the New Mexico Junior Academy Science Paper Competition.  The winners from the participating New Mexico regions qualified to participate in the statewide competition held at the New Mexico Science and Engineering Fair April 15-16, 2023.  Congratulations to all the students that competed (read more to see all the winners).

National Youth Science Summer Camp

New Mexico Academy of Science is pleased to announce that Wonu Choe and Soukya Chimmalagi have been selected to represent New Mexico at the 2023 National Youth Science Camp.  Two students from each state, Washington D.C., and select countries are invited to attend the all-expenses-paid program during Summer 2023.

New Mexico Journal of Science – 2022 issue now available & encouraging 2023 submissions 

The 2022 New Mexico Journal of Science is now available! Abstracts from the 2022 New Mexico Research Symposium are inside, including many from NM SMART Grid Center students.

Submissions are being accepted for the NMJS volume 57 2023 edition!  Please consider submitting a paper. Abstracts due: July 15, 2023. Complete Paper: September 1, 2023.

research newsPlease consider nominating a distinguished New Mexican for the NMAS Outstanding Scientist Award. Complete information is available here.

The Academy intermittently presents this award for outstanding contributions to science and/or science education.  Since 1962 the award has been given to 23 times to those who promote science and/or science education withing New Mexico or improve communication among scientists, science educators, the New Mexico general public, and governmental representatives.

The award seeks to recognize excellent researchers, science educators, and science students, to encourage scientific research and to increase public awareness of the role of science in human progress and human welfare.
