Last weekend our two student ministers, Taylor and Angela, led a fall retreat at Good Earth Village Camp. The retreat is a chance for students to “get away” and take a break for 24 hours smack-dab in the middle of the semester.
This year students enjoyed pizza at Dream Acres, then watched the movie “Freedom Writers” on Friday night once they arrived at camp. Following the movie, each one was gifted with a pocket notebook to write their own story; they discussed the stories of their lives as well as images of God.
The next morning a Winona artist drove to camp in order to continue the image of God theme by leading impressionist painting. Students painted a scene from Good Earth Village, adding their own touches, which included wood burning on the back of the homemade canvases...

...and this goes beyond retreat
Our hope is that when students look at their painting they will not only remember a nice weekend, but the blessing of being created in the image of God. Our hope is that when students find their pocket notebook in a box ten years from now, they will remember that their story is not done, that God continues to imprint their images on the palms of God's hands.
