OCTOBER 20

To the Tri-County Community,

As the leaves change color, our focus at TC turns to recruitment of next year’s freshmen class. Our Admissions Team visited Franklin middle schools this week, and we are preparing for visits from local eighth grade students over the next few weeks. It is a great time for our student ambassadors to reflect and share their experiences here at TC. You can see the wheels turning in their head as they reflect and speak to students sitting in the same chairs that they sat in only a year or two ago.

Our second annual Showcase Spectacular was a great success. Over 300 visitors walked through our programs and joined us for lunch. Many participated in games and contests in the shops. Thank you to all that attended or took part in it.

As the fall comes to an end, the sports playoff picture is really shaping up with our Golf and Girls’ Volleyball teams already qualified for the playoffs. Our cheerleaders won one competition already and have their sights set on a couple more over the next few weeks. Special thanks need to go out to our Sports Boosters that sponsored the Homecoming Dance last weekend. Almost 400 students attended the dance.
Thank you for your continued support,
Mr. Procaccini

Career Days:

There will be no school on Thursday, October 27, and Friday, October 28, due to our annual Career Days. Students volunteering in their shops as part of the Career Day events will need to supply their own transportation.

In the News:

Tri-County Business Teacher Victoria Durfee was recently interviewed by the Daily Hampshire Gazette about how she infuses technology into her classes. Check out the full article here: http://www.gazettenet.com/Knowledge-Matters-makes-simulation-games-for-business-classes-5346052

Updates from Guidance

The PSAT is approaching

The PSAT will be administered on Wednesday, November 2, during the first 5 periods of the day. Please encourage your children to get lots of rest the night before, eat a good breakfast and be in the best mindset possible for sitting for a longer test. Any talking during the test could result in being removed from the test and test being voided.

Students should bring two No. 2 pencils and are allowed to bring an approved calculator with them. Cell phones, food or drink (including bottled water), are not allowed in the testing area.

Freshmen Guidance News

Freshmen went to the library with their exploratory teachers and Guidance Counselor, Ms. Kennedy, last week to register for Your Plan for the Future.

YourPlanForTheFuture.org connects students, parents and guidance counselors throughout the development of their portfolio and resume as they explore careers, manage their course plans, take a series of inventories and prepare for all facets of post-secondary success.  You may access this program through the Tri-County website.  It is our goal to prepare every student with an opportunity for successful management of their education and preparation of their career.

In order to register, every student MUST have an e-mail address. They may use their Tri-County e-mail address which is their 5-digit student ID @tri-county.us.  YPFF helps your child identify his/her interests and learn about his/her “work personality” so they can make an informed decision. Parents are also able to access this program with your child after they are registered in order to see and discuss their learning style and career interests.
After they registered for YPFF last week they took a Learning Styles Inventory which helps them understand how they study best as well as learn some tips on improving study skills that work for them.

New Arrivals at the Library Media Center:

When you visit the Library Media Portal through the Academics menu drop down you will find seven content menus. Under the “Concurrently” menu, you will find a sub-menu "New Arrivals at TCRVTSD". Here you will find information about the items being processed into the collection. These relate to physical media items. Digital items are being added on a weekly basis and can be accessed in the Catalog menu under the sub menu Axis 360.

The entire physical collection of 15,000 titles can be accessed through Follett Catalog under the Catalogs menu.

SAVE THE DATE!

The Tee-Off for Tri-County Golf Tournament Fundraiser will be held on Friday, June 9, 2017, at Wentworth Hills Country Club, in Plainville. More details will follow!
