Week # 34                       12 September 2015

"أَنْتُمْ مِلْحُ الأَرْضِ وَلَكِنْ إِنْ فَسَدَ الْمِلْحُ فَبِمَاذَا يُمَلَّحُ؟ لاَ يَصْلُحُ بَعْدُ لِشَيْءٍ إِلاَّ لأَنْ يُطْرَحَ خَارِجاً وَيُدَاسَ مِنَ النَّاسِ"
 (متي 13:5)
"You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned? It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men"

  • In defending a specific opinion, especially in theological related issues, do not go to the extreme, to avoid falling in the danger of heresies .
  • When you confront some people with their faults, they commit more faults .
  • Do not confront people with their faults, as their faults' consequences will confront them one day.

Wendy Yapp visits the Church
Fr. Abram has met with Wendy Yapp (The bridge Centre, Advancing Women Ministries, Commonwealth Prayer Initiative) on Tuesday the 8th of September. Tasony Magda Abdelmalek and Dr. Maha Bolos attended the meeting also. They discussed some planning issues for events in the City of Perth during October and November 2015
The meeting was encouraging and promising.
Yes, hope everyone is ok - especially with what is going on -–
some good news despite the desperate situation around the world ... yesterday our beloved Federal Government has gone a step in the right direction to help our people... However, I am of the opinion that the war should be stopped and our people would love to stay in their properties... As indicated in my 'Thank you' to the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Please read my letter to them below.
Dr. Theodora Issa
Thank You Prime Minister
Indeed, as a member of the Syriac Orthodox Church of Antioch, the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches, and the Education and Ecumenical Formation Commission, I hereby express my gratitude and thanks to the Australian Federal Government led by our Prime Minister Mr. Tony Abbot for such a generous and courageous action to increase the refugee intake of the persecuted minorities at the conflict zones.  Yes, with this action, Australia has displayed immense courage, mercy, compassion, generosity, concern, kindness, care, consideration and understanding of the situation.

Tolerance or conformity?

Dear Fr. Abram,
Recently, there were howls of protest after parents objected to the compulsory viewing by students of a documentary on same-sex couples in a Sydney high school. One Fairfax writer wrote an article in reply saying, “I won’t accept your ‘tolerance’” and demanded “complete acceptance”.
Which is why I bring to your attention this excellent article written on the topic: They don't wont diversity, they want to impose complete conformity.

Please read it then send it to your MPs.

OMI alert:Project grants to engage at-risk youth in sport now open

Applications are now open for grants to involve 'at-risk' young people in sport and recreation activities.
The Youth Engagement Scheme targets young people aged eight to 18 years who live in lower socioeconomic areas in metropolitan and regional locations.
Administered by the Department of Sport and Recreation, the scheme supports local governments and not-for-profit organisations in delivering programs to targeted local youth. Grants for projects of up to $40,000 will be considered.
Projects should enable young people to connect with their communities through a range of sport and recreation activities. They should also offer volunteer and leadership opportunities to increase capability, and build resilience and sustainability for young people.
The Youth Engagement Scheme is a new project that came about as a result of the Northbridge Youth Diversionary programs, which have been funded since January 2010. Projects funded under the Northbridge scheme include the highly successful Ignite Basketball (Armadale), Streetball in Hilton and Midland's Night Hoops.
This round of the Youth Engagement Scheme closes at5.00pm on Friday 9 October 2015. Program delivery starts after 1 November 2015.

Sealing a deal that works in your favor.

1. Determine the state of the market
“First of all, establish whether it’s a buyers’ or sellers’ market,”. “This can have a dramatic effect on your negotiation strategy and the outcome.”
2. Find out why the owner is selling
“Establish the motivation of the seller,” “Is there a sense of urgency? If you can establish that there is, that may tip the scales in your favour.”
If the agent tells you the owner is ready to move quickly, you will know he’s looking for a quick sell.
3. How long has the property been on the market?
“The longer a property has been for sale, the more likely you are able to negotiate a good price,”. “But that also indicates that you should be cautious in case there’s something wrong with the property.”
4. Ask questions about the price
“What price is the seller looking for? On what basis was the property priced?” Asking these questions, as well as asking the agent directly what they think is a reasonable price, will help you work out what the seller’s expectations are, and, by checking with the prices of comparable properties, whether it’s a reasonable expectation.
