The Martyrdom of St. Julietta

She was born in the city of Caesaria, in Cappadocia, to rich Christian parents. She inherited great wealth from them. An oppressor defrauded her from her wealth by bribing false witnesses against her. When that evil man knew that she wished to inform against him, and expose his lies and extortion, he informed the governor of Cappadocia that she was Christian.

Meeting with the Eritrean Community

On Sunday the 31st of July Fr. Abram Abdelmalek met with the Eritrean Community. They happily informed him of their success to secure a hall in Osborne Park to start their own Church there on Sundays. They expected to start the service on the 21st of August. They expressed their deep appreciation to the Coptic Church and Community with special thanks to St Mary & Archangel Michael Church Community. In return, Fr. Abram gladly received this great news and wished them all success and assure them of his on going support to them."I feel like two brothers live together in one home, one of them decided to marry  and open his new home. It is my joy to be the brother of the groom", he said. He added "The Church is not dividing but it is expanding."
We pray for our sister Church led by Fr. Siltane all success and prosperity.

Census night: don't lose your religion

Dear Fr. Abram,
There is a well-funded campaign by the Atheist Foundation of Australia around the religion question on the 2016 ABS Census planned for August 9.
In this Census, for the first time, the “no religion” box is above all others in the “religion” section.  Recognized religions are then listed as expected.
The Atheist Foundation campaign is urging Australians to mark the “no religion” box if they are not regular church-goers even though they may still actually be believers. Their website encourages Australians to mark the “No Religion” box on Census night for misleading reasons.
 NCC Campaign
The aim of the Atheist Foundation is clear - to increase the numbers of Australians who claim to be “secular” so they can further their aim to cut funding to faith-based organisations, schools and hospitals.  This is despite the level of health, education and social services faith-based organisations actually provide in the community whether people are believers or not.
There is a significant social and financial benefit provided by the services given to the community by faith-based charities and organisations which is worth protecting. These faith-based organisations build social capital and help protect the social fabric within which we all live.
In the end it's about honesty and accuracy of data. People often identify with a religion despite now 'practicing' it often or for a lengthy period of time.

Kind Regards,
Patrick Byrne
NCC National Vice-President

HELP GREEK ORTHODOX MAKE IT BIG IN THE 2016 CENSUS

Dear friends,
Next Tuesday night (9 August) is 2016 Census night and all Greek Orthodox need to pay attention to questions on ethnicity but especially question 19 on religion.
We are required by law to answer all sorts of questions to help governments make decisions about such things as public transport, housing, education and hospitals. This year, the religion question – and its implications for the funding of school chaplains and faith-based charities, as well as tax-exempt status for churches – is all important.
The religion question is the only one that is not compulsory. It lists Greek Orthodox and other Christian denominations and three non-Christian religions, with a space for “other” – but this year for the first time, “No religion” is the first option.
That was the result of a quiet campaign by the Atheist Foundation of Australia three years ago. They hope that putting “No religion” at the top before any other option, they would win the “donkey vote” – and ultimately force governments to end any subsidy or recognition for the huge amount of public good done by faith-based community organisations.
They have also mounted an advertising campaign in supermarket car parks and elsewhere, urging people to mark the “No religion” box.
The problem is compounded by the fact that many non-denominational Christians mark “No religion” because they have faith in Christ, but don’t belong to a particular denomination. To them, “religion” means “denomination”.

Take action on the (Un)Safe schools program

Despite a huge public outcry about the (un)Safe Schools Coalition program, state governments continue to ignore the concerns of parents.
NSW has become the latest state to conceal the names of schools that have implemented the controversial program.
This is clearly a strategy to keep parents in the dark about the program, despite the federal government’s review urging greater parental power and engagement.
As columnist Miranda Devine said, “Safe Schools” has been developed by “self-described Marxist academics” at La Trobe University to re-engineer children’s attitudes on sexual orientation and gender fluidity (The Daily Telegraph, 23/7/16).
A number of parents are being forced to remove their children from public schools.  No parent should be forced into such a difficult position.
Enough is enough!  This damaging ideology must be removed from every Australian school!
You can help stop the Safe Schools program.  Please contact your local state or territory MPs via our new action website.
All you need to do is click here: http://action.fava.org.au/safeschools to send your message to all of them!
You can also help by sharing this email with likeminded family and friends – and by “liking” our Facebook page (if you haven’t already done so) by clicking HERE.
Thank you for your help protecting the next generation.
Sincerely in Christ,
Dr David Phillips
National Director
